Model S Delivery Dates and Sequencing

Are folks generally lining up financing before or after you get the "car is ready" emails? When I talked to the bank a couple months ago, they said I had to have a VIN before anything could happen.
I got my first notice that I was close to ready on Tuesday, a notice that my car was built and ready to go this morning, my VIN this afternoon, and they're trying to put my car on the truck tomorrow. Fortunately I had already liquidated a bunch of equities (back when the Dow was >13300), but even still, getting funds wired to Tesla tomorrow is going to take some wrangling. If you have a sequence # below 4000, I'd advise that you get your financing moved along.

Agreed. I've started liquidating several equities that I hold now so that I'm not caught off guard and have to wait.

Is there a reason to wire the funds, instead of handing over a check upon delivery?

(Still no magic e-mail for me. Sigh. I guess my TMC post count isn't high enough to warent special attention ;-) )

I've been told I should hand over a check upon delivery. But still, had to do some wrangling to get the loan approved today and will have all the funds available (and check from the bank) tomorrow.

I think it depends. My car is being shipped directly to me rather than via any service center (I live in the middle of nowhere and a solid 8 hours from the closest service center). So they wanted my payment in full before loading the car onto the delivery truck. It sounds like anyone going to/through a service center might be able to pay at the time of delivery.

Yes, because I live in Massachusetts. As my DS wrote: " technically we need to have the final payment before loading the car for it to count legally as an out-of-state transaction." Texans and some others have similarly benighted auto dealership laws.

Ah, good to know, as I'm also in MA. Guess that proves that P683 will NOT be on that same truck. Sigh--I had hopes.

(Off to research how to wire funds...never had a need for such urgency before!)

The information to wire funds should be in the final paperwork or you could call Tesla. USAA did it over the phone for a $20 fee if I remember correctly.

You don't have to wire the money though, if you do it far enough in advance a check works as well. Double check all of this with Tesla of course since I just wired the money.

If you post anymore you car will be ready tomorrow - be careful. I'm scrambling to get the papers and money together/ sell my car to the neighbor (fortunately, as long as it stays good!) I had to set up a wire for one source this afternoon but it took less than a few hours for the money to go through (and I messed up on the papers:confused:).

So im 3,175 reservations away yet 61 Vin's ahead of you. So strange!! Must be the Obeche wood?

I was hoping for January, but now i'm hoping for next week. Anyone seen a delivery window with a Textile config?

Yes, Robert.Boston, exactly how does one wire funds to Fremont?
Tesla will give you their bank and account info and you just call or stop by your bank and they will wire the funds into Tesla's account. Simple as that :) You could also FedEx or otherwise mail a cashier's or personal check.

Just emailed the delivery team on the off chance that I have a VIN/delivery window assigned...

I'd all but abandoned hope that I'd see the car this year, and I'm trying not to let the recent news change this.
I would stick w/ abandoned hope. You have all the parts that are believed to be delayed (Perf, CF, grey wheels) so it all depends on whether Tesla can ramp their supplies of those parts and how many folks w/ those parts are ahead of you. I'm a Perf w/ CF and silver 21's and I have a delivery window of 12/11-12/25.

As an update, I pushed fairly hard recently to ownership and its seems to have made my car a priority. I now have a delivery date of 12/1. P3366 has a firm pickup date of this weekend. I'm Sig 1179, and I upgraded from P2407. Not too excited about that given the $7500+ additional cost but glad this process is coming to an end and that my car has finally nearly made it.

And for those that think I hate Tesla and just post here to spread evil lies to lower the stock price, I'm meeting the delivery specialist at a half way point (2 hours from my home) to take delivery so they can get back to Seattle/home at a reasonable hour and hopefully safely. I'm glad new soon-to-be owners are being contacted the way all the Sigs should have been. Tesla has hired an inside delivery team to smooth future deliveries and updates about deliveries. I was also told that additional delivery specialists are on the way too. The last remaining issue is to address major VIN/Sequencing mismatches by contacting those suffering a severe mismatch problem and actively and accurately providing close to reality delivery windows and updates. Do that, and the company will have near-perfect delivery service in my mind. Grats to others with windows.
