Maybe it's not a simple answer...

How complicated could this possibly be?

Either the supply chain and factory are ready to go, and Tesla has a solid idea of production volume going forth, or everything is still up in the air and they don't know. "We don't know" is a perfectly acceptable answer if the situation is so complicated that a prediction is impossible.

Ignoring people who are customers with deposits down is not acceptable.

Tesla is trying to be all Apple-like and be secretive until the last minute. People are starting to configure their cars and have waited years with money down. Supposedly cars are shipping this month so it's not like they're afraid things are going to change. Just get on with it already and publish the information.

I am number 950 in the country. I called Tesla home office today and found out they started sending out configurations today. However, they would not tell me how many they sent out. They would not tell me how many or how often they will be sending out in the future. They would not tell me how many cars they are making in September. I found this very frustrating. This is a public company not the NSA. I gave them a lot of money two years ago and am a customer. I have never worked with any company that treated its loyal customers with such disrespect. They build the best car in the word, but they are the worst in customer service. I have left messages with the Cfo, the director of Customer Service, the Director of production asking one simple question. What should I expect and when. No one has ever called me back.
If I hadn't waited two years already with bad information all along, I would be very suspect about working with them. As we all know, we were promised this car a year ago, then in December, then in the first quarter, and now this month Now they wont tell me when I will be called or when I will get the car. Is it just me or does anyone else find this the worst customer care of any company of this stature you have ever dealt with?
JA

I understand the frustration. I believe the answer (or lack of an answer) you got was "we don't know yet." Tesla wanted to get the configurator on line at the end of the month but the reality is they probably pushed this through just to say they did it. If it works like it did for the Model S then you should get the opportunity to configure your car in another month, to a month and a half. It sounds like it will be a slow ramp like the S was. If so you'll get the car before the end of the year.

I think a week ago you would have gotten a lot of people to agree with you.
Today we all just want them to get the first NNN Signatures configured built and delivered. And my guess is they are focusing on that. #950? I'd guess they'll deliver the first 12 in the last week of September. And then double week over week.So the first 400 by the end of October. And certainly the next 2000 in November...
So you'll get yours by mid November or earlier

I think you're being a tad optimistic there. I'm not expecting mine before early November.

When you are done and click OK... what does it give you as delivery time estimate? :)
No date is given. A dialog appears before pressing "Order" that "You will be able to change your Model X options for one week. After that, your order will be confirmed for the purposes of factory planning."

I will guess that after September 8th we will get a call from the Delivery Specialist who will inform us of the progress.

Dang. Here was hoping...

That's why I switched to 100 posts per page :)

I should add that this idea of submarining the 2nd row is highly speculative on my part. There are tremendous crash loads that have to go through what looks like one pedestal. The mechanism that would allow the seat to move forward and down on that pedestal would be very complicated. What happens if it doesn't lock back in place and there's a frontal collision? I'd hate to be in that seat. Think about that! If they have made it work safely and reliably, I would be seriously impressed.

I think I'm on the record for being really really pessimistic and skeptical here... but that seems hard to believe. They wouldn't have opened it this week if they weren't ready to hand Bonnie hers by September 38th. Do you really think they'll only make 300 in the following four weeks?

How much was the premium for the MS Sig compared to a S85 (not P or P+)?

I don't remember exactly; I made that comparison two years ago. I seem to remember it was close to $20,000. That did include various options, but I remember that the Sig actually cost slightly more than a fully loaded S85 with the same options. If you didn't want those options (such as $4500 for the 21" wheels) the premium was huge.

Certainly not impossible, depending on whether they have all the supplier issues worked out.

Actually, we know they don't, since there's already a delay for the subzero package. But there could be other issues.

And if you're Tesla, you probably want to get this one right, so the initial ramp might be quite cautious.

It looks like we need a separate thread just for seat speculation! ;)

This has got to be the fastest moving thread I've seen in a while... since the Model S orders first started happening. I don't remember there being this much secrecy around that launch. I'm not sure why and I don't think it'll do any good to speculate as to why. I just wanna see the front end completely uncovered!

Yes. I'm on the record around here somewhere with my expectation that Tesla will deliver 2k-2.5k Model X this year, with the bulk of the ramp up in December. My guess would be #950 is looking at early December (incl shipping).

OTOH I could be completely wrong.

The Model S Signature premium was about $10,000 over a similarly equipped standard Model S.

The only real differences were available "white" (cream) leather and Signature Red color other than arrival time and labels.
