    Ohmman's Airstream Adventures

I never reached the GVWR of my Airstream, even when loaded and full of water. The Rivet's base weight is 2800 lbs. I suspect it would be easy enough to keep the total weight under 3200 lbs. One of the more important forces is the hitch weight, which is rated at 300 lbs (max) on the Rivet...

    Ohmman's Airstream Adventures

We had the front axles replaced a year and a half after purchasing the car due to the shudder issue. It resurfaced but also some other noises and odd steering "feel" a bit less than a year ago, when our warranty was just about to expire. The Service Center said they couldn't reproduce but that...

    Ohmman's Airstream Adventures

It's been over 7 years since I started this thread and I'm somewhat sad to report that we plan to sell our Airstream. We decided to trade in our Model X after some continued suspension issues and an overall desire for a smaller everyday car. I had already replaced my S with a Y, and Wohmman kept...

    Can I expect 200K miles from a100D? (Model X)

Battery will likely be fine, depending on how it was treated (Supercharged regularly? Used as a ride share? Charged to 100% frequently? - these won't be good for it). What would concern me more would be the suspension and front axles. We had replaced the front axles on our two Model Xs numerous...

    Front half shaft replacement instructions

Sorry for the rant, but I was just really frustrated. Did end up trading it in to Tesla for a new Y, though. I think if you keep your suspension in low (and deal with uneven/rapid tire wear), refrain from heavy or even moderate acceleration, you will be just fine. And they say the half shaft...

    500 mile range? LOL

From the article: “Before diving deeper into the rankings, it is crucial to understand how Consumer Reports creates its yearly reliability rankings in the first place. This year, the company surveyed over 300,000 vehicles (sold between 2000-2022), and over the past year, owners were asked to...

    Ear pain/Pressure help

We just picked up a 2024 Model Y LR for my wife. The booming sound is nearly negligible compared to my 2022. I don't know if it's related to the cargo cover, the upgraded suspension, or just variability in build tolerances (guessing this is the biggest one), but it's a huge improvement. I don't...

    Supercharging with a trailer

The better (but not best) solution is for a front-charge port tow vehicle. Doesn't work in all situations but is a lot better than backing in. Agree it's not a huge deal but is mildly inconvenient. If I towed in inclement weather I'd find it extremely off putting.

    Front half shaft replacement instructions

I fought it a bit since I brought the car in last May for suspension noise and it was rejected as unreproducible, but this visit they found all kinds of issues. Not just the half shafts but some bushings wearing down and other things that I refuse to fix. There's no traction and I just don't...

    Front half shaft replacement instructions

Just had the half shafts replaced in our 2020 Model X at 60k miles. They were replaced in 2021 with 25k miles before. I'm pretty sure I'm done with this car and we'll just replace it with a Model Y for now. My current Model Y has none of the problems of the X and is preferred by everyone in our...

    Model Y Competition: Rivian R2 Price & Specs Leaked! -- $47500, 0-60 3 Sec, 330 Miles Range

It matters to me. I have an R2 reservation, mostly in hopes that they'll announce tow capacity of 5000 lbs and we can replace our X. However, if the R2 is consuming north of 450Wh/mi, I'll reconsider. My Y lifetime consumption is at 261Wh/mi over 30k miles, which includes a lot of mountain...

Supercharger - Auburn, CA - Lincoln Way (LIVE 29 Feb 2024, 16 Stalls)

I charged here yesterday. Comparing to Loomis and the Auburn location across the highway, it's much tighter (about half are back-in and about half are pull-in immediately across from them). Maneuverability isn't nearly as wide open as the other Auburn, and the location isn't as nice as the...

Model X towing Travel Trailer range reduction.

Slower makes an enormous difference. And remember you always have the ability to drop the camper/trailer somewhere along the way, drive to the charger untethered, charge, and come back to pick up the extra weight. It's a "worst case scenario" but it's always an option, especially if you can...

Plan for about 40% of the range you'd usually have, including elevation. Make sure you have charging stops or camping stops with electricity hookups along the way. And if the campgrounds are private, I recommend calling ahead to make sure they'll allow you to plug your vehicle in. I have been...

    Model Y Competition: Rivian R2 Price & Specs Leaked! -- $47500, 0-60 3 Sec, 330 Miles Range

R2/R3 are good looking vehicles to my eye. Personally just don't like a high consumption EV, and I suspect their design vernacular will introduce a lot of aerodynamic drag. I'm in no hurry to replace my X or Y yet anyway.

I've been driving to Bend in a Tesla since 2014. Used to need to take it quite slow from Mt. Shasta to Bend. Yes, warranties are essentially just an insurance policy. I haven't noticed increased road noise in either my 2016 X or my 2020 X when towing. But to be honest, they have the loudest road noise of any vehicle I've owned (edit to say - aside from my 1965 and 1968 Mustangs). Both are/were significantly worse than my 2014 S and my 2022 Y.

Still do have both. As my kids are high school aged and the trailer is relatively small, we don't travel with it as often, but did do a trip down the coast last summer. Those trips are some of our best family memories, though. That's the reason I had a Rivian R1T on order - to replace the X...

This is why I canceled my R1T reservation. I drive on self generated power mostly and I’m stingy about energy waste in the house. Why wouldn’t that carry over to the road? I got a Model Y instead and I’ve averaged 261Wh/mi over 25k miles.

No, it's not. Towing capacity is not equivalent to towing capability. You appear to be conflating the two. That seems disingenuous, but ideally it's just an oversight based on your positive feelings about the Cybertruck. I've towed quite a bit with an EV. After @JimVandegriff and a few...

You must not drive in the mountains often. That does change things. I use the full range on my Y going 174 miles to my mountain cabin, because I also gain about 7000' in elevation. Add in weather and I definitely have to charge before I hit the big climb. And of course there's the discussion...

Anyone Switch From MY to MX?

I've got both. I've had two Model Xs, a 2016 and our current 2020. I also have a 2022 Model Y. All models Long Range. My wife's car is technically the X but we both prefer the Y. In the summer I can make it from home to our place in Truckee without stopping (either my wife's X or my Y). Wipers

I generally use my stalk to perform single wipes on my MY22LR when the rain isn't steady. As if I had a hand crank wiper. When it does become steady, I can turn them on, but of course rain is usually variable, at least where I am. So a few miles later the wipers are skipping across a dry...

Model X towing Travel Trailer range reduction.

The Airstream Basecamp is a different kind of Airstream, so I am unfamiliar with the aerodynamics. It has more of a teardrop shape, but thankfully doesn't have a rapid drop-off. Many teardrops look at a lot more aerodynamic than they are, because they curve down too sharply and create a vacuum...
