Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

This was my initial thought as well, and presumably, Tesla would like to establish the usual infrastructure (service centers and charging stations) and get a market understanding of potential sales, prior to going too long on establishing a factory. Supporting 8000 cars / year, would be a...

Well that's interesting. I'm in CT, so it's not like I'm some preferred location. I'm on record of visiting the show room model Cybertruck in Mt. Kisco, but I also told the advisor that I was a year+ away from buying anything.

My order was roughly 180,000 in line and I received my invite last week. So they are working through the backlog. Hard to say whether it's supply or demand related, but AWD is showing delivery April-June 2024 and Cyberbeast "late 2024". My guess is demand is high for the Cyberbeast, those...

    ALL CyberTruck discussion

A little family road trip yesterday took us through Tesla Mt. Kisco where the Cybertruck is on display. We could get in and touch, including rolling down the tonneau cover. That was a bit of a surprise, we thought it would be look only. I would agree with everyone who has said it looks better...

It's stating 2024 if you're placing a new order. Which is, on the other hand, probably grossly optimistic, but perhaps Tesla is expecting a lot of pre-orders to wait for price reductions and other trims to come out later and be able to deliver to new orders sooner than we'd expect.

    Russia/Ukraine conflict

Yes, just a funny result of the translation. A person would be arrested (and jailed). An object would be seized (and impounded).

Also, don't assume this is final, ramped up production line pricing. I believe the initial price was $70k? That's only a 30k premium for one of the first tri-motors off the production line.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Priority means what? A $25k vehicle, selling in huge numbers, requires a huge amount of batteries. And a cost structure to support a sales price of $25k. This all doesn't just miraculously happen instantaneously because a $25k car will be the most important car to fuel the transition to EVs.

This doesn't seem that hard if they plan for it. It's easy enough to see if current is passing through a wire from the supply side.

Shutting down to retool in Q1 makes the most sense. Forgetting standard Q1 seasonality, if the IRA tax credit will be reduced, as Tesla is suggesting, there will likely be a pull forward in demand. Better to deliver those cars in Q4.

Justifiably angry that parts shortages raised the price on everything in the world? Angry that some of those prices increases were not permanent? In hindsight, their purchase timing was certainly poor, but they should assign the blame where it's warranted.

I'm not sure I buy into the idea that Tesla will use Ford dealerships for service, however if Elon explicitly stated "never" as you said, Tesla would still not make profit on service performed at a Ford dealership.

For company owned fleets, there may be a case for giving up weight and extending range (Frito-lay may make this choice). And there may be a strong case for always maxing out the weight (Pepsi may make this choice). These are predictable loads. In either case, 500 mile range may just be good...

Ok, but this is a lever they could have pulled at any point in the past or any point in the future. My point is that Tesla is currently getting a big advantage of higher selling prices for used cars that have been returned on closed-end leases. This is a good thing, I'm not sure why it's so...

Yes, I understand that Tesla gets the car back based on the residual value that was established at the beginning of the closed-end lease. I am sure they will continue to sell lease returns for a profit for a long time. However, we are currently in a time where they are able to secure a much...

Yes, the model 3 leasing started just over 3 years ago and the timing is very fortunate, because used car prices are at absurd levels. Profitability on this line item may end when used car prices return to normal.

Fantastic info, as usual. Interesting that the boost started in Q4, 2021, because Model 3 leases were not available before Q2, 2019. Could this be early return of Model 3 leases, or is this just the impact of increased resell price of returned S/X? Since the lease cost of revenue has also...

Info from Tesla - 277v feed to Wall Connector (HPWC) - Which Cars Support It

Thank you. Although we know Gen 2 supports it, I'm not specifically seeing any reference to 277V in the Gen 2 manual. Does it recommend line-to-neutral (i.e. is there a change that rules out Gen3 support for 277v)? I think pages 7-9 are relevant, but interpreting is above my pay-grade...
