Wiki Model S Delivery Update

All well and good as a theory but I don't think Tesla is putting that much thought into it. My delivery window starts in two days and I have configured the most expensive car they can make. I'm doing factory delivery and have a check in hand to give them and I still can't get a firm date of when I can fly up, hand them money and take my car. So, if you really think they are somehow batching the most expensive cars in order to improve their cash flow I think you are mistaken. I think they are just scrambling to get cars delivered in whatever order them come off the line and get approved for customer delivery.

Totally agree!

Well a vague response is better than nothing. I did try contacting Toronto for an update but got no response. Probably means they don't have any information. Do I have an "Ownership Experience Advocate"?

People regularly ask me when I'm getting the car. I just shrug.

Haha, i know the feeling. Some people don't even belive that im getting it. THey sort of lost any belief of it.

On the brighter side, just called my rep and He said that I have a window of delivery from Nov. 14- December 1st. That made my day!! I should be getting a call aout a month before the Nov 14, so any time now.

BTW, I am P524 Performance/Pearl Multicoat/Tan/Carbon Trim/Tech/Pano/Spoiler/Silver 21" /HPWC/TwinChargers/Sound Upgrade to NJ

The rep also said that Sigs would finish production by late oct->very early november, and then the general Production would start from there.
I should have asked, but does this mean that they will finish all 2000 sigs or just the 1200 for North America?

From the sounds of it that's just the 1000 American sigs. I'm pretty sure it doesn't include the 200 Canadian cars. It definitely does not include the overseas markets.

I'm sure that this will pop up all over the site, but I thought that it was appropriate for this thread. So they're up to 100 cars per week!

Also worth pointing out that they doubled twice last month - roughly 25 to roughly 100. If they continue that trend this month we could see roughly 400 a week by month's end. That's their nominal target build rate (20,000 per year).

Despite wanting my car, and as P457 likely getting it soon, I'd rather a slower rate increase with an eye on improved quality and software updates noted in the punch list.

But I really want my car!

I'm sure that this will pop up all over the site, but I thought that it was appropriate for this thread. So they're up to 100 cars per week!

So, doing the math:

Week Ending 9/23
- 42 cars delivered out of 132 total
- 77 produced out of 255 total

Week Ending 9/30
- 250+ deliveries - 132 previous = 118+ delivered! A 3x jump!
- 359 produced - 255 previous = 104 produced. Not as big ramp, but still substantial. And there are 150+ bodies on the line. Super!

Sounds like deliveries were a major hold-up for a while (which is understandable, considering this is a brand new operation) and production is increasing. I make a guess that we'll be near the projected peak of 400/week in 4-6 weeks.

Also, extrapolating this out, let's say it goes from ~100/week to 400/week in 4 weeks. That would mean by the end of October ~350+100+200+300+400 = ~1350 produced, the 1350+2000=3350 by the end of November (since October ends in the middle of the week, this is approximate), and 3350+1600 = 4950 by the end of the year. Deliveries lag behind that, so while we may yet see 5000 produced by the end of the year, the number of deliveries will probably be around 4000. Nonetheless, it's definitely looking likely that we'll get through the S/SSL's, R's, and a couple thousand of the P's by the end of the year. Sweet!

A big problem is Tesla is not at full projected staff for their delivery specialists and they don't control their trucking at this point. They are at the mercy of logistics companies that handle the trucking which is why some cars seem to disappear and no one can seem to find the driver. You'd think they have mobile phones or that they track all of their trucks but who knows. Tesla is looking to get their own trucks so will be in charge of the entire process at that point.

I gotta say I think the delivery aspect is going to become a *major* bottleneck, and soon. I don't see how they could possibly have the staff to keep up with a couple hundred vehicles coming off the line per week. I think there will be a major lag at some point, despite recent reports from GB of cars not even spending a single night at the factory.
