Crack on the glass roof - not repairable

We were driving on the highway and never saw anything but heard a loud thump and noticed two decent sized cracks on my tinted glass roof.

Not covered under my Progressive windshield insurance coverage (from my understanding at least), and only place that apparently carries these glass roofs in stock around here is Tesla apparently. Unfortunately they don't have an available appointment for almost 3 weeks.

I'm sure the safest answer here is to leave it unused, but given the appointment isn't right around the corner, any thoughts on driving it in it's current state?

The cracks happened 2 days ago, and they have not spread as of now. I'm sure that might change with weather/temp

Anything special about the roof glass? Any chance it's like two separate layers of glass and this exterior crack isn't/won't affect an interior layer? Or is this just a bad idea and just be patient car-less for a few weeks?

Thanks!

- nog minder minder knoppen/stalks;
- ingebouwde wireless charging voor twee telefoons;
- lijkt strakker te rijden op FSD;
- hoge instap;
- scherm horizontaal, beter voor films.

Wennen
- andere bediening

Negatieve verschillen
- deur portieren;
- geen dashboard, tenzij goede after market oplossing is dit misschien dealbreaker;
- te klein scherm.

Monolithic versus Compound AI System

MobilEye is not a believer in pure e2e. I think they argue their position quite well.

Back in November 2022, the release of ChatGPT garnered widespread attention, not only for its versatility but also for its end-to-end design. This design involved a single foundational component, the GPT 3.5 large language model, which was enhanced through both supervised learning and reinforcement learning from human feedback to support conversational tasks. This holistic approach to AI was highlighted again with the launch of Tesla’s latest FSD system, described as an end-to-end neural network that processes visual data directly “from photons to driving control decisions," without intermediary steps or “glue code."

While AI models continue to evolve, the latest generation of ChatGPT has moved away from the monolithic E2E approach.

Energy Bar - where's it gone?

I've only just noticed - The energy bar that was above the graphic of the car on screen - the one that changed from black - consumption to green - recovery has disappeared. 14.6 downloaded and installed today - has it gone with that or have i just not noticed until today? I did quite like that feature.

14.6 also indicated In autopilot settings there is an option to select USS or vision for parking - even for the older Intel MCU - but I haven't got that option.

LDU revisie/vervangen, waar?

Dag allen,

This day in 2020 (15th May)

My iPad popped up a photo reminder this morning.

It was the first day since the car arrived on day one of lockdown one that we were able to venture out further afield
We had a celebratory picnic at Elveden supercharger in the sunshine with our less than two month old car with 293 miles on the clock. (112 of those were delivery mileage!)

Unlike today, it was also warm and sunny… 😂

Buying a Model 3 prioritise age or mileage?

Hi
I'm thinking of buying a used model 3 but can't decide which year and mileage to go for.
As I understand it, 2018-20 had chrome and no heat pump, both of which put me off, so am thinking 2021 (or late 2020 refresh) onwards.
Also, as far as I can tell, the most noticeable difference between a 2021 and a 2022 is the switch to Ryzen processors and the removal of sensors, but perhaps there is something else I am missing that makes a 2022 more attractive?

So my main question is this:
Am I better off with a lower mileage (say, 35k) 2021 M3 or a higher (but by no means astronomical) mileage (around 45-50k) 2022?
As far as I can tell from A Better Route Planner, the range and charging speed improvements of a 2022 M3 make all of 3 mins difference on a theoretical drive from Exeter to Edinburgh.
Also, I think I'm right in saying at 50k a car will be out of the comprehensive warranty?

Any thoughts? Many thanks in advance!

Advies lease MY LR of SR?

FSDs is dangerous

I mean it. FSDs is very dangerous. Just 2 weeks ago I was in a rental car and almost drove through a red traffic light. I am so accustomed to the car stopping by itself that I had to implement disengagement procedures at the last second.

Life is getting terrible with the advancement of technology.

I am seriously thinking of starting a campaign to shut down FSDs before humanity forgets how to drive safely.

Continental Tire Cut < 45 Days(1600 Miles)

Hello All,

I found a small tire cut on my Tesla MYLR(attached Pictures) which i bought in March and when I checked with tesla they denied to cover for replacement and were estimating 430$ for replacement. I haven't hit a pot hole or a curb and its not so deep but i notice its kinda spreading. I checked with continental and they asked to inspect with Tire discounters(Authorized Dealer). Did any one had a similar situation and what did you guys do?

Thanks

Front lower control arm replacement

Hi all,

I have the well known creaking on the front drivers side suspension. I've just been to Tesla Tottenham (East London) to have it confirmed. They have diagnosed lower control arm bushing worn out. I'm a bit surprised/miffed at the price they are quoting though. £260 to diagnose the issue, and another £780 to supply and fit. This seems excessive to me. It's especially annoying as I am due to hand the car back to the lease company in a few weeks time (December 2019 M3P by the way).

So, do I have any other options here that anyone may be aware of? I've already rung ProTyre in Bishops Stortford and they have said they can't get the parts.

System down - production compensation

So my inverter went down in January. I didn't know until March or so when I randomly went into my app. I noticed no solar production. Made an appointment - ealiest was 6 weeks away. They diagnosed and determined I needed a new SolarEdge gateway. Fast forward to today when it was finally installed. Production restored.

So for 4 months, I had no solar production. Has anyone successfully got some kind of compensation from Tesla for the lost production? My installer panted the seed into my head, which I hadn't even considered.

How did you go about this? What docs did you provide? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Bought a Model 3 from a 3rd Party Seller

Hi All,

New owner of a model 3 here and quite happy with the car so far. However, I bought the car from a 3rd party seller who specialises in selling EV's. It was a remote purchase and the car was delivered last week. Just recently I noticed that the passenger side tyres are not the OEM Michelin PS 4. Instead, the front is mixed with a 'Kormoran' and the rear is mixed with a 'Toyo Proxes Sport'. They are the right size but obviously each axle has a mixed tread pattern now.

In my mind the car should be supplied with the right OEM tyres, what would you recommend in this case?

Thanks

Trolley Problem with FSD 12?

Has anyone/big YouTubers ran a trolley problem with FSD Beta?

Havent found anything and im sure it would be a nice viral video if someone makes it (would probably cost a lot and require a stunt driver etc to make it realistic)

Really curious as how impossible scenarios are programed with FSD neural nets or if there is some sort of "governing ethics" code that is actually running (or if there is nothing running and FSD beta just gives up).

Things like two unavoidable crashes scenarios of the top of my head:

-one person/multiple people
-car vs human
-human vs animal
-car vs bus
etc

Long time lurker, 1st Accident

Driving home from work in the rain this evening when an RST Suburban braked suddenly due to a car in front of them slamming on the brakes to turn without signaling. Between the rain and speed I couldn’t stopped fast enough and I hit his rear bumper going about 5mph. No air bags deployed or injuries, other than my pride.

We traded information and went our separate ways. No police report file as neither of us had been in an accident before and honestly it seemed unnecessary at the time (hope this doesn’t come back to bite me). Both vehicles operable with little concern about making it home. Nice guy and his is a company car, which means he’s also on their corporate insurance policy as insured. My M3P is a lease due for early turn in on July 26th (target date) because I’ve ordered a Highland M3P replacement.

Damage wise it appears mostly surface level on the Suburban, and I’d argue it is close to the same on M3P. Yes the bumper and hood likely need to be replaced, maybe driver side fender too. In reading various accident threads over the years I realize that much more is probably lurking below the surface. I’m left wondering what options, if any, I might have and/or thinking about due to the surprise of this happening.

In no particular order:
1) Call my insurance company and make a claim, providing all of his information at the same time
2) See if the other party really insists on getting his fixed since it’s a company car. And either a) Work directly with body shop to get quote for fixing my car or b) Turn my car in as-is and see what they hit me for on damages
3) Other options or opinions?

A new refresh Tesla Model X or new Kia EV9 GT Line

Want a extra EV vehicle for my business needs but another Model Y will not suit what I want achieve in that I wish to replace a lot of my needed trips done in a ute so I will stow the rear seats down and load it up with boxes of gear etc. Basically a bloody nice EV delivery van.😁

Now I deserve something nice to drive now I am heading into my latter stages of my career of working bloody hard IMHO. I think a new Model X or the Kia EV9 would suit me, I want a new car with new car warranty, and no I do not want a Cybertruck.

So what should I get?

What, the new Model X is no longer sold into RHD markets?

I guess Tesla are too profitable to bother with us colonials down here and take our crappy money.

So it looks like Kia EV9 here I come. They seem keen enough to help me.

v12 is not e2e AI

Ok - granted this title is a little click baity, but hear me out.

While no one knows for sure how v12 works, Tesla (I suppose mainly Elon) have claimed that it is 'photons in, controls out'. This implies that there are *no* heuristic rules anywhere in the stack. Every action taken by v12 is the result of learning how (good) humans drive.

This is clearly true in many situations, where v12 seems surprisingly human-like. However, two counter-examples make it clear that there are still heuristics in place, and these heuristics overrule whatever the NN might want to do:
  1. Stop signs. No way they trained this thing on millions of examples of humans stopping at stop signs, and it learned to come to a complete stop at all times. (Yes, I know this was requested by the NHTSA. But my point remains - that hard-coded rule must still be in place today).
  2. Creeping at intersections. v12, just like earlier versions, stops way back from the actual intersection first, and then begins a very gradual creep. No human drives like that. I understand why - it's clear that the b-pillar cams are the achilles heel of FSD. But even a driver with that same limited visibility wouldn't stop that far back first, and then begin gradual creeping.
I'm not suggesting this is necessarily a bad thing - I'm actually glad that they still have the ability to apply heuristic rules on top of a (seemingly) non-deterministic NN. But I do wonder how many lines of 'software 1.0' still remain in the stack.

Model Y range question

Range question model y

Hello everyone!

I have a 2023 Model Y LR. At 100% charge the range shows 279 miles.

I was curious about battery degradation so I’ve followed instructions and let the car perform the battery test. Checked the next day and results came in at 99% battery health which is great, but at 100% it still shows 279.

Does the battery health test also perform a recalibration for BMR or is that a separate exercise that needs to be done? I generally try to not worry about miles and have it show % instead but still a bit bothers me why it only shows 279 if batter health is 99%

(Side note I only charge to 100% for the sake of this testing i don’t do that regularly)

Thank you!
