An interesting finding, Tesla gray market in China http://club.autohome.com.cn/bbs/thread-c-2357-29458971-1.html

Similar to all other luxury brand cars, the official China quote usually can't meet the demand. So a lot dealers buy cars from US, then ship to China for sale. Here is an example from the grey market inventory in Tianjin City. All those will be counted as US sale.

Note: the user interface is english, so it's US version instead of Chinese version.

The pics with "Factory Mode" show a Chinese UI for the date and time. Wonder what that's about?

Any information on how much grey market Model S' are going for?

I'd be really worried about service. If Tesla China refuses to service grey market Model S' aren't the owners screwed?

Wow. I would think these car are still subject to the import tariff. Additionally, there is likely a healthy mark up from the dealers for their troubles and having immediate availability to the consumer. All of which means that these may be among the most expensive Tesla sold!

I doubt that Tesla would refuse service to these owners, especially since they are still trying to break into the Chinese market. It wouldn't be any different from a dealer or anyone else reselling a car here in the US. I think the service center would simply just convert their software to the Chinese version if requested.

Is Elon still in China? Reason for asking: Celebration of 100th SC opening at Hamilton, NJ was postponed till Thursday. The call I received from TM about the change was to accomodate additional VIPs schedules. Thanks

Chinese potential buyers complain they can't proceed to payment page when doing online ordering @ http://www.teslamotors.com/cn/. They suspect it's just either too many people visiting the Tesla China website or too many people making the order :) It's totally not a surprise to me because this is indeed a Tesla and Musk week in Chinese media right now. Real model S delivered to all celebrities in the first batch, real super charger is up, so many fence sitter may jump now in order to get car sooner than later.

Wow if it's a traffic volume issue or overflowing order issue, that would be incredible. Have their been any reviews of the Model S by media outlets in China yet? I could see that pushing a lot of folks on-the-fence to ordering

Looks model X reservation slowed down after the "honeymoon" period although it's understandable. First, none of Chinese customer ever see a real model X yet; Second, model S hasn't been delivered, so a lot of people still sit on the fence, not to mention model X; Third, model X delivery is TBD in China, it's a pain;
