Seen smaller scale incident at Vancouver Tesla. Staff were berated for issues out of their control (e.g. why winter tires weren’t in stock.... wtf...just go to tire rack FFS). I intend to send them Starbucks gift card for Christmas, impressed with their level headed tone in face of the rude customers.

hmm.

Guys, I'm new here.

I'm taking delivery of my Model S on December 12. It's my first luxury car - ever. So I guess I'm at a bit of a transition point here where I can cringe a little at both sides. I know I'm walking into a 'room' where a good portion of the club members here are very, very, very wealthy.

Me, I've not always been at a place where I can afford something like this -- my last two cars were Honda Civics. So I have "been there."

To a lot of people, a 3 *is* a stretch, and a big deal to them, it *is* something special. That doesn't excuse assholes, but -- there are assholes everywhere, and they tend to rise to the top in crowds. But the majority of them are likely a bit in my place; they got bitten by Tesla and the technology and the styling and just how the cars and company work -- and suddenly, it's finally in reach for them.

I find the anecdote of the 3 owner saying that Model 3s deserve priority very strange; not that I don't believe it. With the number of entitled people out there I see every day, I do believe it; but the logic kind of befuddles me --- No car has priority at a Supercharger, why on earth would it. Unless someone desperately needs that charge to get somewhere for something dire and important.... (I sure hope that there's not an ad-hoc 'hierarchy' at superchargers...)

Working my way into this elite club, as it were, is unbelievably unnerving in some ways. But I am encouraging some of my friends to get 3s; but is this 'ugh, unwashed Model 3 owners' really the norm among Model S owners?

(I used to live near Boston so I do believe in the Masshole effect, however. That one i'll give you.)

Tesla is in dire need of some process improvement specialists to analyze all their workflows (particularly the customer facing workflows) and retool their processes. You could probably take a survey across the company and get feedback where they have the most waste in time/materials, etc and start there. If they haven't done so already they should establish a department focused on ITIL for customer facing and Six Sigma for manufacturing. I believe they do some of the former but haven't seen much by way of ITIL. In fact removing things like "call back" from the customer support number so folks don't have to stay on hold for 45+ mins every time they call are regressions. They had this before then it went away? Baffling...
Better knowledge based style portal where FAQ can be answered in a self-service manner would be a tremendous help too.

(I apologize for heading off-topic, but the above needs a response. Some other moderator can feel free to split this to a separate thread.)

It's not the norm, and it shouldn't be the norm, although I see some people writing things that can be interpreted this way. Particularly when it comes to competition for Supercharger and service center capacity. We collectively need to stop doing that.

I'm personally happy to see new Model 3s and new Tesla owners on the road (and here in the San Francisco Bay Area, there are a lot). It means more people able to share in the experience of driving some of the best EVs on the planet, while not burning up dinosaur juice and pumping hydrocarbons and other cr*p into the atmosphere. Those of us existing owners (particularly of the Roadster, Model S and Model X) have no reason to look down on Model 3 owners just because they paid less for their cars or because they're new to the Tesla/EV game; indeed they're the culmination of the first "Secret Tesla Master Plan".

So now there are more kids in the Tesla sandbox, and it's a little crowded for now. Tesla is going to have make it bigger. Some of the kids, both old and new, aren't nice, but most (like in world at large) are pretty decent human beings. So let's all get along and enjoy life in the best sandbox in the playground.

Bruce.

PS. I don't consider myself to be particularly elite or wealthy, but I'm very fortunate to be able to afford my Model S. For the record my last car was a 2005 Toyota Prius that I drove for 10 years until I got my Model S, and besides that my only other cars have been a Honda Accord hand-me-down from my wife and a Toyota Corolla. If the Model 3 were available in 2015, I probably would have bought that instead of my Model S, but no regrets.

What I think is hilariously depressing though are people who are buying Model 3's as a status symbol... Um... News flash, if you think the 3 is a status symbol then your status must suck... LOL :)

Jeff
I own a P90D and still feel like I own a basic model.
Wishing for a P100D for my birthday so that I can finally be a jerk... and by wishing I mean working extra hard and saving up for it.. unless the Roadster comes out with the advertised specs by then! Then I’ll get that for the extra jerk allowance and the extra inches that’ll add to my johnson

My thread really took a turn. My original point was that I’ve noticed Model 3 owners expecting a level of service that Tesla is not capable of giving them right now for a number of factors (not enough service centers being the biggest)
Exacterbating this is the new model 3 owners yelling and cursing at the Tesla employees. I haven’t seen this with new Mode s or x owners but maybe I missed it.

I think that may be because model S/X owners tend to be classier, classy people tend to be more understanding.

I know this is gonna be politically incorrect but let’s be honest, people of lower socioeconomic status tend to be more crass, those people are the same people that think because you work for the company you make the decisions. They end up making things personal, “I feel wronged by tesla, you work for tesla! You are responsible and YOU better make it right, now!”

I generally appreciate all of your posts but have to disagree with the "people of lower socioeconomic status tend to be more crass" part.

If you take 10 people making minimum wage, and 10 people in the top 5%, I'd bet you a nickel that there would be just as many (rhymes with douchebags) in the upper end as in the lower end. Maybe the next set of 10 and 10 grades out differently, but let me ask you this - how many BMW owners do you know that are insufferable versus ... Corolla owners?

The last 2 people I saw at the SvC who were not happy campers? One had an XP100DL and the other had an M3. Now, in fairness, I've been spending an inordinate amount of time at SvCs these past few weeks (of the 6 loaners taken in 4 years, 4 of them will have been in the last 2.5 weeks, counting the one I'll need this coming Monday) - and the number of truly upset people has been quite low - and a number of those hadn't even bought cars yet.

Hey man I own a BMW!

I know quite a few insufferable BMW owners and they all have one thing in common, they own the cheapest model but act as if they’re driving a Bugatti.
In fact what I was saying doesn’t only apply to the tesla owners. I’ve spent quite a bit of time at the bmw dealership (E60 M5 is a bitch) and met a few owners of higher end BMW’s who unlike the people I know with bmw’s were much older, much wealthier (I assume due to the car they are driving) and overall carried themselves in a professional manner.

People who purchase corollas know exactly what they are purchasing. They know they are buying an econobox and don’t feel entitled to anything special.

Traded in my S85 for a Model 3 P on Sept 29.

There is no doubt in my mind that I now have the better car. By every metric except storage space. Previously the S was the best car I ever owned.

The M3 was built from scratch first true 100% Tesla car. It is a marvel and IMO will go down in history. At some point in the future, the S and X will get a refresh based on everything Tesla has learned from the 3. They will be the most amazing cars ever made...again. Tesla seems to have made it a habit.

And yeah, I am still the same prick. This has not changed.

That’s not true, the model S was the first car tesla built from the ground up

These insufferable BMW owners are part of the reason that I retired from BMW. They drop their 3 off on Friday, load their luggage into the loaner, authorize absolutely no repairs, and return on Monday with 500 miles on the loaner ( the dealer is so terrified about bad surveys that nothing is ever done about it ). Just today there was a 3 series parked in a stall at the La Encantada supercharger in Tucson so now the mall has to have someone there to prevent this stupidity from happening.

Model S had Mercedes parts and used many traditional automotive systems. The concepts and ideas of what an electric car could be had to bend to market realities.

Model 3 is its own car. From the turning stalks to the superior battery cell technology this is Tesla 100%.

I expect future cars from Tesla to continue in this way, as Tesla gains the manufacturing volume necessary to strike out in the directions it wants to as opposed to looking at how to best reconcile what is available on the market at a reasonable price with what it wants to do.

The Model Y will be spectacular and probably the best selling vehicle Tesla will ever make.

Until that flying thing they were talking about of course...

I see what you’re saying, in that case you’re still wrong, Tesla does not make all the parts for the Model 3
According to Elon Musk himself they have a complex supply chain supplying parts for the model 3
If i remember correctly their supply chain is responsible for close to 10,000 parts

You’ll never have a car where everything is made by tesla, that’s just not efficient.
