Just dropped off my month-old 100D for a surprisingly open-ended service appointment

This is crazy. None of this is acceptable. I hope that you are compensated with a new vehicle or full refund.

I tend to agree - but no one at Tesla is going to make a single concession without me hitting Oregon's lemon law limit.

And I am darn close now, depending on how the out-of-service days are calculated.

I can't tell you today I'd want anything other than a refund at this point. I admit being somewhat of a beta-tester was understood when I signed on, but I certainly didn't expect my car to spend more than 20% of my ownership time in the shop.

Picking up the X today. The rear motor has been replaced.

They also chalked up the speed issues I have been having to the new maps. (I never got a notice I had the new maps, but I suppose I could have missed it.)

They supposedly wanted to know the locations where I was having speed discrepancies so they could report them for a fix . . . that's what they said, anyway. Doesn't seem efficient to me, but what do I know.

The bright side of these monthly service appointments is that I've never had to wash my car since purchase.

I wish I could flag this thread so no one could read it - but I am now using it to catalog the issues with my car for lemon purposes.

My apologies in advance.

I made it a couple of days without an issue. . .

Today when I parked the car, I got out of it and could hear the driver's side mirror whirring. That's the one that was just replaced under warranty. As I was plugging in to the charger, the driver's side mirror appeared to be self-adjusting to the very outside of it's travel (as if trying to point out and away from the car's body) and was clicking back into position when it got to the end of the path of travel. It would then power outward again until it ran out of travel, click back into position, and start over.

It did that 4-5 times before I realized what was going on. I got back into the car, powered it on, and manually adjusted the mirror into position, seemingly pointing it more towards the car.

I then got out and the car was silent. (I did not put the car into drive at that point as I had just plugged it in.)

A couple hours later, I drove to dinner, put it in park, and observed the same behavior as I exited. I touched the directional button on the interior of the driver's door to quiet the mirror motor.

The valet delivered the car to me after dinner - same whirring sound/behavior.

I drove home. This time, upon putting the car into park, I stayed in the driver's seat. In fact, the mirror was adjusting to the "bottom" of it's travel and adjusting upwards with the click each time. (I don't know that it matters - but given the prior issue with it tilting down in reverse and not coming up when I put it in drive, perhaps it makes a difference.)

I deleted the Easy Entry/Exit driver profile entirely as the car would not let me edit it.

In any event - I am off for a trip until Wednesday, but have asked my service advisor for an appointment Thursday.

I have 34 service days already - and I am not yet 5 months into ownership.

Do you get out your cell and record any of this?

I also mentioned my auto-wipers. They simply don't work. After driving the loaner home, I sent another email comparing the loaner vehicle's wiper operations to mine - the loaner's works as they should. Mine aren't aggressive enough, even in the high setting, to keep the windshield clear. As to this item, the SC replied that AP1 cars (the loaner) and AP2.5 cars (mine) have different hardware to support the auto-wipers - and that my wipers are working as designed, and their operation will be refined via firmware. A reasonable, yet not wholly acceptable explanation.

Just to comment on this, AP1 uses a conventional rain sensor, while AP2 uses the cameras. It seems that Tesla is still perfecting the rain sensing on AP2. I noticed that my dad's February 2018 build Model X's rain sensing wipers were definitely not sensitive enough.

what happened?

I went into the dealer and they asked me to explain what was going on.

After several attempts to recreate the behavior, I couldn't do it. (Exactly as one would expect. . .)

They asked if I wanted to leave the car for inspection/evaluation or continue to drive it. I said I wanted to continue to drive it.

(I am sort of OVER servicing this car.)

Then 2018.14.2 came out - and I got an email from Tesla saying this firmware should address the auto-door opening problems I had since I purchased it. Sure enough, after reactivating that feature, I have not had a repeat.

I have had a few other some issues (MCU going dark for a few seconds when getting into the car, driver's side mirror not returning to normal after reverse, etc.) but honestly, the last 9-10 days with the car have been the best I have had since purchase.

It's functioning. And I'll take that!

Nice of them to tell you, did you get this information from your local service center, or have you been working with the central service/support people? I was never notified that the door issue should be resolved even though my service center was aware of the issue and actually installed 2018.14.2 while my X was in for something else. That having been said, I can confirm that I haven't seen my driver door re-open since that version was installed, either.

I got that info from the escalation specialist. After the service center told me they couldn't inform me when it was fixed. (That's what led me to escalate it via the website.)

So I was "stuck" on 2018.14.2 . I emailed the SC (since I am now on a first name basis with them :)) to ask if there were any issues blocking my updates. They said my FWD cladding sensors were bad and I needed to replace them.

They were able to push the update to my vehicle that night. (Maybe overriding the error?)

After making the appointment, I had a repeat of the November behavior where the GPS stayed static, and said that the maps needed to be loaded. I also had no TACC and no EAP. They were able to re-set me remotely, fixing that issue.

Dropped the car off today and see that the cladding sensors at the bottom of both FWDs were replaced.

Car should be buttoned up today with a 6-hour turnaround.

Thank you for the update!

This car is remarkably cursed. I just got a call from the SC. I won't be picking it up today. The driver's side falcon wing is apparently contacting the rear glass when closing. The rear glass has begun to chip. They are going to replace both glass pieces. Car will be down until at least Friday.

(I had one fail to close on the door this week, but hadn't noticed any inappropriate contact between the door and the rest of the car.)

The negative side is they told me my car was done - and it's not. But on the positive, they found an issue before I even knew about it and are setting out to take care of it. That sucks - but it's better than sending me home with the car as is. I appreciate their attention to the issue.

Man, you are one patient person...

Honestly, I don't know what else to do. I don't meet (yet) Oregon's Lemon Law - but I am getting closer.

The other bummer - I just realized I paid to have Photosync Tint installed on those two windows. I am going to need to pay to get that replaced . . .

Do partial days count in Oregon or does it have to stay in overnight at the SC to increment your days counter?
