Decided to sell my new BMW X5 and buy a Model S, crazy?

I got the non-leather steering wheel and it is really good quality. Very happy with it. Just ask your delivery specialist for the "vegan" build. I am intrigued by what they could do with the premium interior option. I ordered before they crazily added powered liftgate into the interior pack. If my car was written off and I had to replace it I would be so annoyed if they could not give me the powered liftgate without chucking in leather. Let us know how you get on.

I have owned a 2013 Audi RS4 for 18 months and I ordered a brand new but already-built Model S 90D two weeks ago. It's now in transit somewhere between the US and Switzerland. I can't wait to get it!

I love my current car and sometimes I'm afraid I'll miss it (it's crazy fast, handles great, the V8 sounds great, the build quality is just perfect). But as a geek and from reading MS owner's posts here and elsewhere, I guess I won't regret the switch to 100% electric. I just got an outlet installed yesterday in my garage.

Good suggestions!
Today I asked and the good news is they can config a "vegan" interior, but I don't know the details (color, materials, looking), need to get their reply tomorrow.

In the other thread I talk about and post an upside down photo of my standard textile seats. You need to see them in person as they are much better than the small samples in Tesla stores. Quite a few people bought the textile and thought it was real leather. I never needed the premium interior since I was the era of the tech package, which gave me the powered liftgate. Perhaps you could choose premium interior, but have alcantara lining instead of leather. Your problem will be if you want next gen seats, as they are leather only.

My two cents - consider RWD. I say that because unless you need the traction for winter, there are advantages to RWD over AWD. Noise - search the forum - people complain about the noise from the front motor. Maintenance - two motors is twice as complex as one and twice the chance of DU failure. And I personally grew up driving a RWD car and have never liked front-wheel drive. Its one of my favorite things about my RWD model S - the feel of the rear wheels pushing and the front wheels only steering - it just feels right to me.

Also, I vote you get the 85 kwh battery, or even the 90. Reason is - in 10 years after it degrades you will still have decent range left. You'll have less with a 70 kwh battery. And 85 kwh cars charge faster at superchargers. I would have bought the 100 kwh battery if one had been available.

But whatever you choose I'm sure you'll enjoy it - once you go electric you really can't go back.

Actually, I get it. The Tesla experience is the first truest "new car" experience in a generation or two. The car is so different, it may become part of your persona. Everything else is just old gas-powered tech, with gas-powered tech characteristics (slow, smelly, noisy, etc)

I am seven months into my P85D, and I feel like I keep getting a new car every other month. On that note, I am dropping the car off for a Ludacrous upgrade this Thursday, but with the autopilot functionality, the over-the-air dashboard redesign, improved AC, better proximity (over the air) to the key fob, the new-ness keeps coming with continual upgrades. You really feel like you are driving the future.

The Tesla sales model and on-going relationship is solid -- (But It isn't all perfect... I am still miffed about 691 HP advertisements for the P85D that didn't ring completely true.)

I also love the pearl white... I selected it as well. It is as beautiful as the day I got her. I would highlight recommend the upgraded stereo, but would skip the premium interior as the leather doors wear (my opinion). I also suggest a black headliner -- really makes the experience more sporty. Suggest you consider XPEL and Opticoat Pro to seal her up...

I've just bought my new 2015 BMW X5 (xDrive35i) 3 month ago, but, in recently the Tesla fascinates me a lot after reading some posts on Quora & some reviews...
Actually I paid attention to the tesla in 1-2 years ago, but never thought I should buy a sedan as the first car for my family.
But now, I decide to sell my X5(thousands of dollars loss especially the tax loss in CA!) and order a MS 70D (just put down the deposit), am I crazy??!
Anyway, I'm excited to be going to join in the Tesla family

Below are my initial configuration and reasons, very appreciate for your suggestion & comments!

1) Exterior color: Pearl white
- though my X5 is a dark color, we decide to get a lighter one for the sedan especially in the CA;
after compared to those colors, the pearl white is a little better than others, I trust my wife's eyes (she is a designer:)

2) Roof: Glass Pano Roof
- I felt depressing while masking the sunroof in my X5, so I just want more lights come in.

3) Wheels: 19" basic
- actually I want the cyclone wheels before because its nice looking and energy saving, but after reviewing the posts in here, I decide to buy the basic one then switch to a TST aftermarket one if I want, which will save me more than $1000! Thanks for your guys' posts!

4) Interior: basic seats & decor, premium package
- My wife is a vegetarian and refuse animal leathers, I agree, so just choose the default seats(saved money also:), but plan to select the premium package due to the lights & power liftgate though it includes leather dashboard :(

5) Model: 70D
- no large range requirement: very short commute (12 miles a day, may be 1 mile in future), also we just lived nearby the supercharge station, WOW~
- so most of the time we will use it to do shopping & weekend short travel (maybe some long distance travel in future after owning the model S)
- AWD: just for the potential safety, a little more power and very different feeling said by some guys in this club?

6) Autopilot
- a must have

7) Sound system: the basic (need a HIFI upgrade?)
- This is the only one which made me hesitated, please don't hesitate to share your thoughts:)
- Not a fancier but I'm always listening musics while driving by iphone bluetooth, and my X5 have a "harman kardon" surround sound, not sure whether this is better than tesla's basic or hifi package? do you know is there any comparison between the HK and tesla's hifi system?

Ok, that's my thoughts, thanks a lot for your review and comments!

Ah, thanks, just know this, but anyway, my company also supplied a lot of free chargers.

Great, thanks for your post, travwill!
btw, how about your Fidelity Sound? better than x5's HK sound system?
I have the X5 with HK and the Model S hi-fi blows it out of the water - one of my favorite features. My X5 is a 2013 though and I rented a 2015 a month ago and the HK was improved over 2013 but still not equal to the Tesla hi-fi. The streaming audio quality on the Model S is excellent in my opinion.

Not Crazy at all. We have a 2012 X5 and are expecting our Model X 90D this summer. The X5 gave us many problems and at 43K miles it feels it's falling apart. It was leaking engine oil. The water pump just died 1 month ago. One turning light dead. The power steering is leaking fluid and the AC blower motor is giving out huge whining noises. Maybe it has something to do with X5 being assembled in US. My other 2009 BMW 335i didn't have this much problems (albeit one of its axle was replaced at 3rd year).

You should get the 85kwh (90 is probably not worth the extra cost, unless you have money to burn). You will regret not having the extra range. AWD makes sense.

I don't think perf is worth it, because there's just few opportunities to go that fast; I went back and forth about that before I got my 85d, but I don't regret it now. Some people want to have the fastest version of a car, almost any car, but that doesn't really matter to me.

Also, test drive one immediately if you haven't done it.
