Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Max battery power of the current car is 436 KW(585 HP). 90% of 436 is 392.4 KW(526 HP). Those numbers all line up with expectations. There is a possibility that US based cars will hit 461 KW at the battery instead of the 436 KW of the old cars. Not sure if that is possible or not though.

Congrats! Did you switch from a RWD/LR to the Performance model?

This is how important the 60 foot time is for the 1/4 mile

My prediction is that the new car’s 1/4 mile times will look very similar to this.

This is how important the 60 foot time is for the 1/4 mile

Here are two Dragy screenshots showing the fastest and slowest you could go and run 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds with rollout subtracted. The 100% stock Model 3 Performance did 0-60 mph in 3.23 seconds without subtracting rollout. There is no way the new car is only going to be .1 seconds quicker...

What does your current car run for 0-60 mph and 1/4 mile?

    Model 3 Performance/Ludicrous Waiting Room

Congrats! So excited for everyone getting VINs now. As far as the lease goes, let’s just say I can’t get the tax credit without the lease. I ran the numbers and the depreciation would be too extreme for it to make sense to buy the car. However, I want to be clear that the lease numbers are...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

If it hits 125 mph it will be well below 11.0.
  8. M

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

It won’t even be close to that. 9 seconds perhaps.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Model 3 Performance still only has a rear permanent magnet motor. Model S LR has two permanent magnet motors. You can’t trap 130 mph in the 1/4 mile without both motors being permanent magnet motors. 125 mph is about all we can hope for in the Model 3 Performance.

    Model 3 Performance/Ludicrous Waiting Room

I have to think that they have many thousands of Model 3 Performance orders already just in the US alone.

    Model 3 Performance/Ludicrous Waiting Room

I am leasing as well so I really don't want to replace the ultra expensive tires or the wheels for that matter. For most of the time my stock wheels and tires will hang in my garage. Whenever, I have a track day coming up I will switch back to them and perhaps I will run them during the peak...

    Model 3 Performance/Ludicrous Waiting Room

That's a good point that I hadn't thought of and HUGE CONGRATS on the weight loss. That is an incredible accomplishment.
  13. M

    Model 3 Performance/Ludicrous Waiting Room

I believe what he is talking about is like for like tires. For the level of grip the stock tires offer you probably can’t gain much range while keeping that same level of grip. What I am talking about is sacrificing some levels of grip but still getting WAY more Performance than the LR has but...

    Model 3 Performance/Ludicrous Waiting Room

Congrats! I am definitely in the camp that those who ordered the LR and have waited all this time should get the Performance Model first. Can't wait to hear how much you like it.
  15. M

    Model 3 Performance/Ludicrous Waiting Room

I think there will be some LR buyers that simply assume the Performance Model is too expensive without ever really digging into the details. Resell values of the Highland LR cars will be positively abysmal.
  16. M

    Model 3 Performance/Ludicrous Waiting Room

If you sell the Performance wheels and tires you could easily buy an efficiency setup that would get you even more range than the LR(Performance has a bigger battery) and maybe only lose a tenth or two in acceleration.
  17. M

    Model 3 Performance/Ludicrous Waiting Room

There is one thing that is for sure with the 2024 Model 3 Performance, this isn’t a limited production car. It is absolutely apparent that this is going to be a relatively high volume car considering how incredibly quick it is. It makes no sense at all to get the LR right now if you can take...

    Model 3 Performance/Ludicrous Waiting Room

I have a set of 20x9.0 +35 wheels in a square setup that if my math is correct will work perfectly as efficiency wheels on the new Model 3 Performance. Those wheels have 235/35/20 Hankook iON EVO AS tires on them.

M3P: Why So Little Regenerative Braking?

I really haven’t tested Track Mode that often because I am more into Drag Racing. If you are driving on a road course aggressively it will heat up the battery fairly quickly and deplete the battery at the same time. That should happen reasonably quickly but I wouldn’t count on having strong...

Review: Hankook iON evo AS vs Pirelli AS+ Elect vs Michelin PS 4S vs Michelin PS AS 4

I drove about 150 miles in an absolute flooding downpour at 70+ mph with the Hankook iON EVO AS tires. The efficiency dropped off dramatically from the standing water and higher speed but the tires seemed to handle the standing water quite well. I certainly would have slowed down if I still had...

It might if a shipment goes totally to Charlotte and then Raleigh has to wait for an entirely new shipment. Who knows? No telling how they distribute them.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

It is very important to remember that the 32% increase in rear motor power happens at vastly different rpms. The old rear motor hit peak HP at about 40 mph. The new motor has been said to peak at 68 mph. That is a significant gap in speed. More HP at a significantly higher speed isn’t...

Direct 18" vs. 20" wheel comparison for efficiency

18” T Sportline wheels among other brands will definitely fit the old Model 3 Performance. However, I am not sure if they will fit the new Model 3 Performance. I will be able to test this when I get mine though. I don’t have 19s so I can’t test that. If 18s fit then those will typically be more...

Review: Hankook iON evo AS vs Pirelli AS+ Elect vs Michelin PS 4S vs Michelin PS AS 4

That’s very similar to the results I am seeing. Staying at or below 225 wh/mi is doable now even with a Performance Model.

    Model 3 Performance/Ludicrous Waiting Room

Are all of the VINs so far for cars where they switched from a white seats LR or RWD to a Performance with white seats. It would make sense to get cars for those people first.

    Model 3 Performance/Ludicrous Waiting Room

The trade offer will be ridiculously low in all likelihood. Their offer for my 2022 Model 3 Performance was insulting. I just clicked the button that said “No trade in”. Then it let me make the final payment.

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

I am bringing my Dragy to the delivery of my car. There isn’t enough room to do a launch out of the parking lot but 100 yards down there is room. I might even install my S3XY buttons and my Teslogic Device in the Tesla parking lot. Those give me just as much data as the Dragy.

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

Dragy is more accurate for trap speed than the track slips. Satellites don’t get knocked out of position like the track’s trap speed measuring devices can be. 128-130 mph is common for current generation Model S LR cars to trap in the 1/4 mile. I could post a half a dozen dragy slips...

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

The Model S LR cars built from late 2021 through the 2023 model year were allowed to exceed 130 mph. The 2024 Model S LR cars are limited to 130 mph. Here are two Dragy results for Model S LR cars that are real. This is what the car is capable of for these model years.

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

You realize the 122+ is a Model 3 Performance, right? I am sorry but you are just simply wrong about the current generation Model S LR. It absolutely will trap 130 mph in the 1/4 mile. Dragy is more accurate for trap speed than most tracks. The way tracks have to measure trap speed makes them...

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

I run the Dragy for every track run. Tracks are typically accurate for time but trap speed is rarely correct. Same pass and everything lines up except the trap speed. The old Model 3 Performance can’t do almost 123 mph in the 1/4 mile. That just isn’t possible.
