YouYou Xue crashed while on autopilot (aka Model 3 Road Trip)

Why? All he ever does is bash Tesla and expects free goodwill for being an ambassador that breaks laws and uses AP in unsafe environments. I am surprised it took so long for him to wreck. He admits to falling asleep 12+ times in AP mode, drives on AP with headlights off, and many other idiotic videos he has posted while in the drivers seat.
And this is exactly why Tesla does not support and frowns on these sorts of freelance escapades. Tesla will be the bigger loser on this one.

Tesla Model 3 unofficial road trip ends in crash, driver blames Autopilot

Tesla warned YouYou not to test M3 in Eastern Europe where mapping was not yet available. Should’ve listened to Tesla’s recommendation.

Update: Tesla sent us the following statement:

While we appreciate You You Xue’s effort to spread the word about Model 3, he was informed that Tesla does not yet have a presence in Eastern Europe and that there is no connectivity or service available for vehicles there. In addition, Model 3 has not yet been approved and homologated for driving outside of the U.S. and Canada. Although we haven’t been able to retrieve any data from the vehicle given that the accident occurred in an unsupported area, Tesla has always been clear that the driver must remain responsible for the car at all times when using Autopilot. We’re sorry to hear that this accident occurred, and we’re glad You You is safe.”

Is it even a supported region for S/X vehicles delivered to Europe ? Or is he totally out of even that level of service coverage?

Part of Tesla’s response:

It sounds like a no, but I could be wrong.

No kidding. In fact, Tesla should give him a new car and a better map. His value to Tesla is similar to that of the You Tube stars who earn free cars through their superb videos and the resultant referrals of their many close "friends."

On second thought this creep is tweeting at Musk blaming him for the wreck. Too bad his passport can't be revoked.:D

What does "mapping" have to do with Autopilot performance? Isn't it purely reliant on vision+radar and not reliant on GPS/mapping?

I'm also baffled by that response. The only thing I can think of is that after they are able to retrieve the logs from his car once he enters a supported area, they may not be able to map the accident location from the logs onto a map, so will have no idea what conditions are responsible for the crash? This is well worth the investigation though, maybe he has the video footage?

Honestly, this scares me - the X accident and this one and other people claiming their Teslas were trying to kill them; there's a statement in comments in You You's facebook page like this:
" I had this happen to my 2017 Model S a few weeks ago and glad I had my hands on the steering wheel as it could have been very bad......but just sold the car last week anyways and just bought a 2018 Audi RS5 today as my replacement."

I guess it is sort of stupid to count on AP in an unfamiliar area; maybe you could travel regular routes with both hands on wheel with AP engaged & ready to react and if no issues then start trusting it more on that specific route... but even then it may behave differently depending on what lane you're in - seems leftmost/rightmost lanes carry more risk right now.

Very upsetting news for AP, I wish Elon would report that for both these accidents conditions were analyzed and AP fixed, never again... I think there was another fatal crash in China that didn't receive much coverage/attention.
I may start considering not purchasing EAP and purchasing AWD instead, if my delivery of AWD could happen in time for full tax credit...until now was pretty sure I'd get EAP.

This example proves how effective FUD can be, especially in unverified anecdotal experiences. :(

Autopilot seems to have a glaring fault when it comes to medians and driving into them. I have lost my trust of autopilot at this point and increasingly Tesla. I do not support how Tesla treats salvaged owners and how they banned all of their service center from even helping them. Tesla had a part in this by banning any type of support for Youyou and lack of software updates.

You are so wrong. The car clearly was at fault. I have one just like his and mine has tried to kill me several times.

Hey everyone..... I'm setting up a Go Fund Me Page.... I've decided to go to twenty brothels with no protection and a handful of viagra. I don't have insurance, and I need to raise money to treat me for the several venereal diseases I've been catching.

I just wish I would have had the foresight to NOT TRUST ELON. Now, I'm stuck with pee on fire and priapism and a car that tries to kill me when I sleep. Anyway guys, go fund me..... I need the funds.... I'm an ambassador of Tesla. I deserve to not pee fire because of Elon.

Each of these high profile incidents involving EAP should just serve as reminders to stay vigilant while using it. Every time I turn on EAP, I understand that I cannot trust the car to do the right thing. I'm alert, eyes in front, hand on the wheel. Even with this alertness, it is still a huge stress relief for my commute to work. I no longer describe my drive as "fighting traffic."

I'm glad Xue is fine and I'm sorry to hear about the accident.
Each person will spin the story how they see fit. My take is that he pushed AP too far and eventually the house odds won over.

This is my biggest gripe with AP, and it is not against AP per se at all: people somewhat naturally give it more independence than it can handle. This is going to be the storyline for years to come until AP really is autonomous and not just an assist.

That won't stop people from claiming the car is to blame. You could have a 10 fold reduction in accidents in the world and people will find a way to claim corporate malfeasance. It's unfortunate.
