Oxnard Supercharger News

City planning approved the project in November 2013. It will be at the Collection at Riverpark adjacent to the H & M store on the west and 24 Hour Fitness on the east, but as far south of those businesses as possible and still be within the Collection parking open-air parking lot. The project is approved for 10 bays. The City has conditioned the project on the landlord (Shea Properties) putting in three public electric vehicle chargers somewhere else in the mall within a time period after the Tesla Chargers go online.
The final lease terms with Shea, the final utility provisioning, and the final plan check permitting (Building and Safety as opposed to Planning) was close to, but not yet completed as of 2-17-2014.

As a 60 owner, I'm also looking forward to the Oxnard SC as a way to bypass Hawthorne on my way to LA and points south coming south on 101 from Buellton. I can make it from Buellton to OC on almost a full charge, but only managing speed and climate control.

I am looking forward to the Oxnard SC as well; I mainly stay in Ventura to work but occasionally go to LA midweek and OC every weekend. No ability to charge overnight in Ventura for me because I stay at an apartment complex.

I wonder if this Oxnard site will be one of the first Battery Swap stations? Tesla has announced that the LA -> SF corridor would be the test case for battery swap, so this location would make perfect sense for the Hwy 101 route.

I would think the swap would be on the heavily traveled 5... especially b/c that this is the route chosen when time is a factor (vs the coastal route)...

FWIW, Tesla updated the coming soon locations on the website, and Oxnard is still listed at "coming soon"

Oxnard Supercharger Progress

As of today, Friday March 14, 2014, still nothing at the site indicating progress. No construction. No equipment. No power near the site. Just open air parking stalls for the shopping center. The City of Oxnard approved the final review and issued the building permits on February 26, 2014, permit number 13-3038. The applicant name is R.D. Engineering and Construction, California State Contractor License number 596438. The site address on the permits is not the true location--"502 Town Center Drive, Oxnard, CA 93036." The site will be much further east and south...in the Collection at Riverpark southwest of the H & M Store along the fence bordering the 101 freeway. It is permitted for 10 charger bays.

Google Maps clearly doesn't know where 502 Town Center Drive is, since it shows a circle marker instead of a pin. Perhaps that's what you're looking at? If the location on the permit is not the actual location, that could be a problem.

If you search on Google Maps for 650 Town Center Drive 93036 (the Whole Foods Market) and then look south and east that is the location, southeast of Sea Glass Way along the freeway fence.

Does anyone have an update on the Oxnard SC? We will be traveling down from Oregon to stay at Pepperdine U in Early May and are hoping this would be ready. Sounds pretty 'iffy' at this point.

I am at the site location every few days. As of yesterday, there is still no ground broken. There are free J1772 chargers at the library in Malibu, less than a mile from Pepperdine.

Last we heard, they were having issues getting power to the site. Maybe they want to avoid a repeat of San Juan Capistrano and get it resolved before construction begins.

Yuk. Building superchargers must be very difficult. San Juan got 98% complete and has been sitting around for over two months because of a technical problem. I could really use the SJC and the Oxnard SCs - as well as a bunch more that are not on the map yet!
