Model S Refresh: License Holder Part of Bumper?

I doubt there will be any paint damage when removed. I'm sure that if they went through the hassle of making the bracket, they made sure the tape won't damage it.

Also they use double sided tape on the spoiler. I have seen several videos where it is removed without any damage to the paint.

Assuming they use standard automotive grade double sided tape, it will come off without damage or residue.

I’ve seen a few videos where the MX bracket is falling off. Maybe that is because it’s not done at the factory and they did not make sure it was clean first.

I was just in at my local service center getting an inspection on my car to sell it when I noticed they had one of the redesigned Model S cars
They told me the license plate holder is now installed by default at the factory... I'm going to call my delivery specialist and see if he can put in a request to leave it off before I even take delivery.

I'm just glad I live in a state that requires a front license plate. That makes it easy for me as a law-abiding citizen.

My advisor said that the the front license plate holder goes on at the factory, and that no, you can't request that they do not install it (at least for Californina). Regardless, it is just the two bolts on the bottom as shown earlier in this thread and some double-sided adhesive. My advisor said that they can not legally remove it, but that there is nothing stopping a customer from doing so. If you can use a socket wrench you are good to go!

I don't think the removal process has been confirmed yet, just lots of speculation and conjecture to my knowledge. Maybe I missed something though.

My DS just called me and he will have the technician remove the plate frame in case it comes from factory installed.

The Owner-Advisor here mentioned that there wasn't any choice anymore on not having the front plate holders. Said something about a law that the bumper had to stick out a certain distance or something.

Maybe we can get them to install it with a microfiber towel between bracket and front fascia in lieu of what’s most likely some kind of double-sided tape. I’m sure it will come off but I’d hate to mark it up in the process. Worse case you just put it back.

For the purpose of removing it later? The microfiber towel would likely mold (depending on where you live).

Watched the sale men remove it to a local Showroom, it's held in place with double sided tape and 2 bolts underneath the front lip. The tape removes relatively easy and the bolt holes are recessed so you can't even tell the plate mount was there.

Now if we can just convince the DSs to remove them before we get our cars. Some are saying they "can't".
