I think I read somewhere that there is more to it than just the version number. There are perhaps some other associated files. Maps?Same: 2018.12 5eadc71
My order for a midnight silver metallic 100D was confirmed on March 12 at which time my DS told me my car was tentatively scheduled to start production beginning May 7. I’m planning to take delivery at the Fremont factory so I can tour the factory on May 31 (reservation confirmed). My hope is to drive back to Palm Springs on Saturday with a recharge stop at the Kettleman City supercharger. That location has 40 stations and a 24 hour lounge. I just yesterday noticed I have an assigned VIN, so I’m wondering if the production date will be moved up.
Fingers crossed.
Thanks David. I suspect there was a mad dash to build the Model 3 before the end of the first quarter, which may or may not affect the S and X production. And then again I could be wrong.Hi Scott,
It sounds like fun.
Mine took 30 days from the time the order went “final” including delivery to Atlanta. There was a 1 week delay between the initial configuration and the final order to allow cancellation or changing the order. I think the actual build took 3 days.
If there's not the transportation delay, it seems you should be able to pick it up shortly after the build finishes. I wonder how long it takes from build finish to the earliest one can take factory delivery? I might call the factory delivery center and ask.
I wanted to do the factory delivery but California charges sales tax for factory delivery even for out of state residents.
If you find the end of build to earliest factory delivery time, Would you let us know?
Best,
David
My originally assigned delivery person, who is in Cathedral City, helped get me reassigned to Fremont. That individual seemed confident that they could accommodate my combined factory tour and delivery. To be honest, if the car is ready earlier I’d skip the tour for now.Hi! Keep us posted - I ordered 5 days after you. Was considering delivery at Freemont but haven't heard much yet about the reliability of delivery dates. By the way, I'm the Palm Springs area as well.
Steve, that does reflect well on Tesla. Based on my brief read of some posts here, I suspect that Tesla tries to fill up trucks that are going out of state. Also, it appears they build cars in groups based on common features, 75D v. 100D, panoramic v. Fixed glass roof, etc. then again I might be totally off base.Scott - Tesla’s VIN assignment and build interval seem unrelated. I ordered 12/26, received a VIN within a couple of weeks but the production pushed to mid-March. I’m actually still awaiting delivery nearly 100-days later. With a factory delivery you are probably ok but I’d be a bit cautious. In my case I pushed some business trips from late March to April based on Tesla’s assurances that the car would be delivered in March. I’m now in a bit of a bind with an, as yet, unknown delivery date, an upcoming business trip next week, and the old car sold on 3/31. My DA has gone dark. Very frustrating experience at present. YMMV. Hope you have better luck. (Good color and model choice BTW!
Congratulations on the new car and thank you for the info on Opti-Coat Plus. Definitely worth looking into. I also saw a you tube video on a "poor mans" substitute called Hydrosilex, the videos look impressive but I have not done any due diligence. Now that I am thinking about it I should search the different Tesla communities to see if there is anyone who has tried it.

This probably is just a case of "lack of data," but the Model S Order & Delivery spreadsheet has not had any Prod Start dates added since 3/26. Same for the Model X. I know the line was shut down on Friday, 3/30, but I would have expected to see someone's car start production this week at least.
Has anyone out there who has an open order seen their car having started production this week?
