Frunk Dent (Frustrating...)

I noted my (identical) dent here Don't like how you have to slam the frunk - Page 3.

I also suspect some frunks require more weight than others to latch. I measured how much force it takes to close mine by standing on a bathroom scale and recording the difference in my weight between standing and at the moment the frunk latches (after leaning on the hood with gradual pressure w heels of each hand) - 85lbs! It seems like that's more than necessary...

Thanks, I was not aware of that.

I've asked service about it a couple times and they said that the government won't allow it to be automated because of one of their regulations (going way back) has to be a double latch system same as on an ICE so that if it is accidentally opened when driving down the road(and yes I know this is completely impossible in the MS I know that it has to be in park to open. Yes you can drive with it open...but the car has to be in park to actually open it from a closed position) it could fly up and obstruct the drives view...so while I'd also love to see this I...unless the government changes it's regulations I doubt this is something we will see anytime soon..

Two minor updates:
- I'm going to go ahead and try the paintless dent repair. The guy I talked to made it very clear that he has had some successes, and some...well, not. I liked his knowledge on the dent (although it's scary how much knowledge he had on that specific dent) and I hope he can make a difference. Hoping to schedule for next week. I'll update this thread afterwards.
- I sent a detailed email to ownership. Got a pretty generic response:
"Thank you for contacting Tesla Motors Technical Support in regards to the Frunk. We greatly appreciate your feedback and attention to detail in your report. I have passed this on to the proper team for review Unfortunately with the light aluminum it is more flexible than most other metals. We apologize for the inconvenience this had caused and thank you again for your feedback. Please feel free to reach out to us anytime via email or 877-79-TESLA."

My email focused on the conflicting info (the delivery specialist showing us differently than the video which is different from opinions here) and the incredible number of people getting the exact same dent (suggesting a specific issue, and not just random user error).

The adventure continues...

After reading this I looked carefully and noticed a minor dent. Not very noticeable. I probably used my frunk 4 or 5 times. I have no idea when it happened as I had my MS taken in 4 different times for other issues. I am sure I did not dent it but I can't prove if the service center did it or not. My frunk seems to take alot of forxe to close it and I followed the instruction by placing my palm in the middle and pushed down with fingers forward and down.

This is a ridiculous and unacceptable problem. TESLA markets the frunk as one of the benefit of MS. It s a shame how easily it dents. Definitely a defect in design. 100k car for crying out loud! Things should work as advertised.
Btw. I took delivery this March so apparently they have not fixed the issue. I hope tesla comes clean with tr his issue and either offer free fixes or a new design as i hate to see another American car company ruin its reputation for poor workmanship/manufacturing.

I still think that these days, if almost anything needs special instructions, then the product is flawed, it should just be intuitive.
Indeed, or as Elon would say, the product is broken.
Any product that needs a manual to work is broken.

This is an obvious design flaw that needs to be redesigned. As an engineer Elon should know this.

I wonder (for those of us without the reinforcement - not sure what VIN that started on) how easy a retrofit by spraying some high-density foam into the cavity at the front of the frunk hood would be?

I had the same thought, some expanding foam inside to stiffen the front edge and spread the load.

FWIW, I've cycled the frunk hundreds of times and no dents. Did it at least twenty times at a car show yesterday.
Same here, I use mine 4-5 times/day. Stroller, tools, disposing of bodies etc... My father even slammed it down once as he thought it closed like a "normal" cars hood does. Should have heard me scream NOOooOOOOOOooooooo........ When he did that, scared a number of people standing around! But to date, no damage or deformations.

I had an issue recently with valets at a very nice hotel where I had parked for dinner. Just seated when I saw on my iPhone app that the doors, back and frunk were being opened and closed. Apparently "show and tell" for the valets. I immediately confronted them, explained my displeasure and explained how the frunk needed to be properly closed to avoid damage.

Since then, I haven't used a valet because of the potential for abuse to my car.

So just had Tesla check with their dent repair guy while the MS was in service about the crease in the Frunk. The paintless repair is apparently not possible, and their local body shop just quoted $976 and will require the removal of XPEL from the hood. It would not include the re-application. I am thinking to skip this for now as I drove oblivious for a while. Maybe in a couple of years when I have to re-do XPEL or whatnot. Bummer.

Yep, same dent. I saw it first when my car was 1 week old. The dent-less repair is usually not possible except the dent is far enough away from the front edge of the frunk. The first dent repair dude made it actually worse, since he couldn't reach the spot with his tools, he used a glue gun/pull technique. Thanks to that, I had my original dent as well as a hump - great!! I checked with a second dent guy who didn't give me much hope based on his experience. He offered to reduce the secondary damage even for free. Unfortunately, there was little he could do to even reduce the hump. While the dent wasn't that big nor was the hump, every time I looked at the front of the car, it was right in the middle of my face. I decided to go for the body shop repair. Be aware, no body shop work will be as good as factory paint. That said, despite some minor imperfections in the new paint, I can enjoy looking at the car again from every angle. Bottom line:
1) dent-less repair close to the edge of the frunk (1 inch) - not possible
2) pull technique - no!
3) learn to live with it or you have to go through the pain of repair and repaint (sorry)

It took awhile to schedule (I'm the OP) but finally had this work done today by the local Paintless Dent Repair guy that Tesla uses. I'm pleased to say that it is now PERFECT! Completely fixed. Very happy.

- In the last 3 weeks alone he has done three more of these dents...seems like he is getting close to double digit frunk repairs (he may already be there)
- My dent/crease was close to the edge but came out great
- Find a guy who is knowledgeable and experienced with these (that's why I used Tesla's guy)...in conversations with him it's like he knows more about the frunk lid than Tesla does!

Very happy owner here!

I've lost track of the current TMC policy, but I would like to have the contact info for who did your work so that I have it handy in case I experience similar drama. Always good to have competent professionals in the rolodex.
