DeSantis' answer to why he does not mandate mask use:
“If you say you're going to be prosecuted you know or wear a mask, they’ll say 'geez, they were telling me not to wear one in March now they're saying to do it,'” DeSantis said. "We're going to trust people to make good decisions.”

I don't understand trumpleDorkSpeak or hear their dog whistles. Can somebody translate into English ?

We don't need these crap comments. Take them to a political thread.

I assure you we all wish there needed to be less political talk in the COVID thread. However, for really obvious reasons, we can’t have a serious conversation about COVID without talking about the outrageous stupidity of Trump and his supporters. And, if on occasion, we have a laugh while chatting about it to bring a crack of a smile in these dark times, well, there’s nothing wrong with that.

Not a confidence inspiring sight just like the Tulsa event. I have to say, even in the San Francisco Bay Area, more people are out and about with loose compliance to masking these days.

One couple in the store the other day were wearing only simple face shields, without a mask. I can’t imagine that being better for others compared to a mask. Or is it? I’m thinking about when they need to sneeze, it’ll just come out.

And how about the NBA, you think that’ll still happen with what is going on in FL and Orange Co?

It's better than it being underground!
Yeah, that makes me nervous. Obviously they're probably fine. There were only 129 new cases in Kings county yesterday with a population of 2.5 million. And they're probably catching a much higher percentage of cases than other places. I'm not sure you can continue to behave like that and not cause another outbreak though...

This is the biggest concern. Orange County doesn't look any worse than the rest of Florida. I think as long as they're not doing triage in the hospitals it will still happen.
They really should do it in Hawaii. Players could probably safely leave the "bubble" after the two week quarantine. My understanding is that there aren't any suitable courts though.

My opinion on the NBA bubble in Disney is that if teams and news reporters will be staying in a bubble, shouldn’t the Disney employees providing food and living accommodation services also live in the bubble? Those are people that will be going in and out daily.

on reddit to quote Trump saying that bit about testing less (slow the testing down please). I think that's been covered here already, so it didn't surprise me to hear him say it, what did surprise me was:

"we got another one over here. The young man's ten years old. He's got the sniffles. He'll recover in about 10 minutes. That's a case!"

Maybe they’re trying to test the probability of fomite (surface) transmission? My understanding is that there won’t be any contact between park employees and people inside the “bubble.”
I would think it would be chump change to hire people to be in the “bubble” 24/7 so I don’t really understand the logic. Really though, they should have figured out how resume somewhere where the “bubble” isn’t necessary... there’s a lot of money on the line.

He is right that there is no one reason to test anyone if you’re not going to do anything with that information. It would be nice to have a leader who would articulate to people the reason for testing.

I watch the new case numbers, hospitalizations and deaths for our county pretty much every night. Waiting for numbers to be good enough for at least the hair salons to reopen here. Santa Clara County will probably be the very last one. Disappointed that 2 other bay area counties opened them up last week but crickets from SCC.

While it’s not exciting to see daily case numbers go up, I’m more mindful of the hospitalizations and deaths. Sorry some people won’t be celebrating Father’s Day this year with their dads and husbands (Happy Father’s Day to those Dads out there reading this). Just read a news story of a young lady who’s dad got called back to work at a casino, had been fine, was concerned people weren’t wearing masks and the casino wasn’t doing much of anything, and two weeks later was he dead from covid. She said one week he was talking fine with her and the next week couldn’t really verbalize and then he was gone.

I will say when the cases increase I feel thankful that that many people are now aware they are positive whereas maybe they were asymptomatic or just mild symptoms and not sure, so can now take care of themselves and others. Better we have fewer infected out there roaming around unaware. Saying you are slowing down testing is so infuriating.

Or if what is done does not have the desired positive effect.

I get the impression that San Francisco has a pretty tame testing program mostly centered around hospitals but it is enough to know how the epidemic is progressing, and of course to handle admissions correctly. The marginal benefit of more testing is uncertain if the population is already behaving smartly.
