In a modern car, an electrical malfunction or glitch can easily put you stuck on the side of the road. At that point, having real mirrors won't matter.
(Seriously, though, the mirrors aren't any more mission critical than a lot of other electronic bits, and are not terribly failure prone. When is the last time you had a factory backup camera break?)
