UNSUBSTANTIATED RUMOR: New firmware 5.13? Tesla service says it's being pushed now...

Yes, this is my first post and I'm surprised by the attitudes in some of the responses.

I spoke to two different Tesla tech specialists on the phone (I think they were in Fremont) who both said there was a firmware push which had started "about two days days ago" and that the sequencing would would take about two weeks to complete. I specifically asked if it included the traffic enhancements to the Nav and they said yes.

My P85+ is just a couple months old, (no service needs or issues w this spectacular car) so my update will be late since they explained they sequence by VINs.

6.0 would be big news... Not seeing any posts, I find it strange - so I'm asking this group. No need for the couple of harsh replies.

Explanation, not an excuse: The reason for some skepticism by some is that everyone has been waiting for the next series release (6.0) for a long time and there is lots of speculation about what will or will not be included. So, when someone posts anything about a possible firmware update it gets everyone excited. However, many times people have posted about getting a new firmware update, generating excitement, that ends up being a 'bug fix' for previous firmware versions in the same series resulting in disappointment.

The previous firmware updates have not been sequenced by VINs. No one has figured out how the distribution has been sequenced. If it had started a few days ago and sequenced by VINs, signature owners would have it and it would be all over this forum.

I'm very excited about the color-change LED's in the door handles, the DRL and rear light strobing for those of us who might moonlight as public safety officials, self-clean touchscreen, road noise cancellation, and cruise/turn signal stalk function swap, personally.

I think that's where most folks are at. .11 and .12 seem to have a few bugs.

I've used both. Both are buggy, but 5.12 is much better. 5.11 froze on me constantly and I had to do resets on the dash and center screen daily. 5.12 has been much more stable, but my center screen still does some weird things from time to time- the entire screen will actually cycle through colors randomly while the entire car is turned off! I do like the minor changes in 5.12 though, so I hope they iron it out in the next version.

Huh, well maybe they had their facts wrong. It might be on the verge of release or perhaps they were made aware of a timeline that has not been followed by the software deployment team, but it most certainly has not been rolling out to anyone other than beta testers. In my experience, TMC threads take off like a spreading wildfire as soon as anyone reports a new firmware. We haven't even had a single report to speak of.

They did do the cruise/turn function flip. Just go test drive the new Mercedes B class EV and you will notice it had the same steering column as the Model S with the cruise / turn signal stalks flipped. I wonder if Tesla will get getting the new steering column from the Mercedes vendor that makes them.

Thanks. Now I get it. Others have been awaiting longer than me. I'm just starting to get anxious for the update.

The W-164 M-class has the same steering column as the Model S but for the W-166 starting in 2012 the cruise control and turn signals stalks were moved to more conventional positions, not just the positions flipped. They are different.

My ICE is a 2009 ML320 Bluetec W-164. I like the controls being in the same place in both vehicles. Only problem is that the ML320's doors don't automatically lock when I walk away and I'm having trouble remembering that.

Finally got around to reading this thread, with a bemused smile on my face. One constant in all my interactions with Tesla is that there is as much misinformation as real information floating around that company. In general, if you hear something from a Tesla employee (even it it's Elon), restrain your desire to believe it. If you see it written down, this a better chance that it is correct though not 100% (as all that have watched the coming soon SC maps know well). If there is a date attached, expect it to be missed, usually by a lot (anyone got a chademo adapter yet??).

I dearly love the products this company creates but have learned to check my expectations at the door...

I did something similar in my wife ML W164 the other day. (I usually never drives her car) When I got home, left the car and went into the house, where my wife asked why the cars engine was still running outside...

I had simply left the car running and walked in without thinking about turning it off. Funny how fast new habits grow on you. I hope this gets better when she get her Model X :)

Yes, the 6.0 beta testing so widely discussed is seemingly what they were mentioning which has the maps enhancements. I was just asking if anyone had seen the update Tesla service had mentioned - didn't know / wasn't told the version.

Got my answer from other sources and a whole new appreciation of some of the TeslaMotorsClub community, unfortunately.

Wow, that's extreme. There was like one or two people that were pretty jaded in their posts, most everyone else entertained your comments and even provided feedback on what it might be, and you say this? That's messed up.
