Yup, did that...

Odd. I just ran VMSParser on my Mac using the -b and got the proper output. What operating system are you using, just curious. This is how I executed it on my Mac: ./VMSParser -b 201402051707.tar

Then you'll get a bunch of data/numbers and you looking for this:
timestamp, brickahmin, brickahave, bricknumber
04/02/2009 15:48:47, 157.05, 157.17, 26
04/03/2009 15:48:48, 157.05, 157.17, 26

Just checking, but the -b needs to come after the executable/program name. Also your logfile should be in a "tar" format.

Make sure to run the command like so:

vmsparser.exe -b yourlog.tar

Also make sure you didn't unzip the original logfile that was archived in the "tar" format.

That syntax worked. Got these values for the month -

Is that normal to have the same bricknumber for a long time?

As for having a low brick for quite a while I see that with my Roadster. Often for 7+ months. I have been told it is not of concern and my pack is "within" range. And from the Plug In America while I am below average I have to agree I am not outside of the norm. I have also found it is very possible to game the ideal miles. I can get my ideal miles to vary a good 10 miles. At least for my 1.5 with 25,000 miles I see about an 8 mile difference between winter and summer. I can aways get 5+ miles if I charge at 110V rather than 220V. My ideal miles are a few miles above average if I drove it easy the last time as I will be a few miles below average if I drove it hard. Below is a graph of my ideal miles after a standard charge. I am losing about 1.3 miles per year. So time/miles do have an effect as well, but I have found other factors named above can give one short term gains and loses that are part of the noise of the system.

Did find Doug_G's TeslaGLoP and saw the lowest brick command, but don't know how to read it. Using TeslaGLop, I see the same numbers repeating a lot, but it does change... Don't know if it goes newest to oldest or vice versa, nor can I tell how long the periods in between commas are.

Yes you will get the same brick repeating for a while, but as long as it changes up periodically everything is fine.

I'm at 55,408 miles and my range and CAC has taken a dive during the last couple of months;

Tesla service reports "Completed a bleed scan. Battery is in good condition" and when reminded I paid £13,000 for the ESA's "Unfortunately we cannot go into further detail with regards to the condition of the battery itself".

The car has just had the 400V Controller replaced and is now waiting a new 12V battery bracket so it's still in the Tesla workshop (3 weeks and counting) :crying:

mmmm this is worrying for us UK'ers (.. especially as Kevin is one of THE biggest Tesla and EV advocates here... what happens when mere mortal TR owners need help ??)
I know they are delivering loads of model S and soon moving to a bigger shop, but surely model S pre-delivery work must be almost 'apprentice' work ?
I thought the wickedly expensive ESA's would offer more protection, I guess the 400v Controller, can be changed independently of the whole PEM ? otherwise the ESA might just have paid for its self as its approx same cost as a PEM.

First off, thanks Kevin for providing an example of what a bad brick would look like. I'm not so freaked out about my wife's #40 now.

Here's the word from the SC in SoCal after they've looked at the car (and did the bleed test, updated the firmware (to support the >70A bug)) and I have approximately two months until my first annual maintenance for her car...

Since her daily drive is approximately 60 miles a day, they suggested that we drive the vehicle in Standard Mode and run the car down to about 10 Ideal miles at least three times over the next month and charge back up in Standard Mode. On those evenings that the car has NOT been driven down to the 10 Ideal miles, park it, but do not plug it in overnight.

We are going on vacation for about a week in the next month and the tech suggested that we plug in on storage mode during that trip.

After the month, and during the annual maintenance, they'll look at what happened to the pack after these tests.

Granted, I did see some improvement in minimum CAC values over the past week since I did my test on July 2nd and July 3rd... So, we'll see. Will report here (as well as my blog).

That's interesting advice from Tesla tech. Keep us posted (and enjoy the trip .. have you got OVMS to monitor it from the beach ? :) )

Yup... OVMS is one of the first things I added to the car... (the Roadster is our second EV) and I was spoiled with having Telematics on the old ActiveE.

Not the beach (I live in SoCal), we're actually going to Disney World (and Orlando stuff) with family.

I still find it jarring to leave the car unplugged for a long time.

I wouldn't worry much about it being unplugged, especially something short like a week. When I go out of town on a 2 week trip I drop the SOC down to 50-60% and then put it in Storage mode while connected. That way if anything odd happens its safe and its sitting in the battery's sweet spot for the SOC. Of course the hotter climate you're in the more energy it'll consume in case it needs to cool the pack down or run the pump.

No doubt that UK Roadster support has dropped off a cliff. I'm trying to be really supportive of Tesla (as always) and have been using Alexander Sims Roadster for all the events that I have in the diary but that's hardly sustainable :crying:

I know everyone has been working really hard to deliver Model S in the UK which I think is incredibly important. I also don't have anything but praise for the people in the workshop but they clearly need more resources because hurting existing customers is very bad news for Tesla.

I thought the wickedly expensive ESA's would offer more protection, I guess the 400v Controller, can be changed independently of the whole PEM ? otherwise the ESA might just have paid for its self as its approx same cost as a PEM.
iirc the 400v Controller is fitted at the front of the car and I had one replaced a couple of years ago. Obviously, the ESA's are only worthwhile if you can get Tesla to fix the car when it's brocken :frown:

Yes I think it may well be a resource issue ... I heard similar from a friend who has just taken delivery of a Model S.
I feel for those guys too because the work is so 'seasonal', peaks and troughs, little to do one minute, and then wham - 100's of Model S to check, deliver and all their new owners to keep happy.

I guess we should make sure our cars only breakdown in the troughs :)

Hi Kevin,
This is all pretty interesting. Certainly does look like a sheet has dropped off seeing as the CAC nose dived suddenly.
Are you able to extract the logs from my car? I tried a couple of times recently but think I was using the wrong sized memory stick...

I had that problem until I followed what was suggested by Wiztecy.

Ask Tesla to reboot the VDS when you stop by next time. I've had my VDS fail to dump logs and what it took was an unplug/plug of the computer which triggers the reboot.

Then the logs started to work (under FAT and FAT32 1Gb or 2GB drive).
