Trunk opening button works while driving!

Hi!

I borrowed my MS to a friend who has small kids. The car has the rear facing jump seats in the back..

Kids being kids in a new car with many tempting gadgets, they obviously pressed the trunk open button inside the car. While the car was moving. And yes the trunk popped open.

Why does the button work when driving? You can't open a DOOR if the car is in D gear. Why would anyone want to open the trunk?

Anyway, I'm sure everyone learned their lesson and this will not happen again.

Are you sure you car doesn't let you open doors while in D? Doors in my Model S open just fine when the car is in D. I've had passengers get out of the car without me putting it in P.

IMHO it has to do with US DOT regulations, mostly for kidnapping

Front doors open, but rear doesn't. Maybe there's a setting somewhere?

IMHO it has to do with US DOT regulations, mostly for kidnapping

its an old law on the books. ever since the famous 'trunk monkey' case was settled, this has been the law of the land.
