Not sure when I'll be heading on that route next, but very happy for this location. It'll kind suck to not have services late in the day but on long range vehicles heading to Tri Cities or Walla Walla etc you probably will only need like a 20 min charge max.

Interesting to note, looks like Blackstone pulled a OneCall for directional drilling down at Madras on the 12th this month... maybe that's where they're heading next?
Boardman was not a Blackstone location. It was handled by Quality Electric out of ID. Blackstone would be going to Madras by way of Tuckwila.

I would love to test this drive (eastbound) when the wind is really ripping through the Gorge- I bet you could make it no problem. The day we drove the wind wasn't much, but its definitely a noticeable boost so long as you are heading in the right direction. I don't look forward to our first drive toward Portland into a 40mph headwind.
I driven this about a dozen times since taking delivery in August. The wind and temps can impact range big time. Coming back on Sunday with light winds and 65-75 F temps we did the 245 mile back to PDX @ 282 KWh/mile and arrived at 9% SoC with no stops. I’ve also seen as high at 365 KWH/mile at 35-40 degrees pouring rain and 25-30 Mph headwinds requiring 25 minute charging in The Dalles. Best trip was last October, eastbound, no wind, 65 degrees and no HVAC. Made the trip @ 259 KwH/mile and arrived with 18% SoC. It is not unusual to see 30 plus degree temp differences between Eastern Oregon and the PDX metro.

That’s why Boardman is so important precisely because driving the gorge is such a crapshoot when it comes to weather impacted energy consumption.

And then there’s the deep shadows in the gorge that freaks out the autopilot but that’s a topic for another thread!

Well, I’ll take it. It’ll make that better. I still don’t think it’s a good location, but it is a location that will work for a bunch of people. Need my mythical 20 chargers in Biggs!

Agree Biggs would be awesome….however I just don’t see it with The Dalles so close and a new set going into Hood River. We head down 97 a couple times a year and it would be ideal- TA just put in a brand new travel center and I’m kinda surprised fast chargers were not included for any EVs.

And while I agree my hope is a little optimistic at this point, there is precedent - Cle Elum to ellensburg is about the same distance. Perhaps when the density is the focus. It would essentially be perfect for bridging Yakima to Madras.

Drove from Joseph, Or., did not fully charge at Wildhorse Casino Supercharger. Made it to The Dalles with %14 charge left. Had to slow way down as the 18-20 mph headwind took away more charge than I thought it would. Boardman, I just may have stopped there...:) Will keep a lookout for the opening.

Drove by today. No change. Everything with covers.

You might ask - why isn’t it working yet now that the electric meter is installed? After all, when a new house is built the electric company comes and installs the meter and that energizes the house.

If you look closely on the meter there’s a label that says “MULT BY 400”, and a label that says “REMOVAL OF METER DOES NOT DE-ENERGIZE CIRCUIT”. For high power installations like this the power doesn’t flow through the meter. Instead, current transformers (e.g. https://new.abb.com/products/1SVR450117R1200/cm-ct-400-1) are clamped around the big conductors coming off the transformer and their secondary taps feed the meter.

That adds a couple of steps to the commissioning process. I’m guessing an electrician picked up the electric meter from the utility and then installed it along with the current taps. Now the utility needs to schedule someone to go out and inspect the meter and current tap installation and then energize the cabinet. These additional steps add to the timeline.

hours for the sage center are pretty tight (10-4), so .4 miles to the park down the way for bathrooms (not verified they have them, not even listed on the boardman parks website, but looks like it from street view). might have luck at blue mountain community college, and there is also the pool right there. Macario's, a mexican place, is .3 miles and is open 11-8 except sunday.

Well the Gorge trips just got easier! yes. Way to go Tesla. this one was on again off again and teased to be coming, it seems. and now...done.

Will be using this one (and the new Hood river one) for 4th of July trip. Bet things will be hoppin' and busy but that's how it goes.
