Should I upgrade to Plaid or keep my 2014 P85D w MCU2 and Ludicrous upgrade

It's absolutely a concern ... but I'm also concerned about the issues with the rear drive motor potentially failing. Dealing with having Electrified Garage modify it is time that I currently don't have ... and I assume the battery will fail at some point in the next two years.

Having extra range and better autopilot and a warranty are the main (potential) winning factors for me.
I would say throw the numbers down for new battery and new DU I know DU has 4 year 50k miles not sure about battery warranty but I bet it’s substantially less. From what’s I’ve seen build quality is better on the older cars vs what you see in newer cars.

So, after a test drive… IMHO the new car is certainly much nicer in many ways.

The autopilot is much better…

But the $10k trade in offer is insultingly low, and hard to get past psychologically.

Get a competing offer.

And you can always keep the old car with the new car and suffer the financial consequences of emotional fragility ;) /s

Cars are not investments. What matters is wether life lived will be better in the new or in the old one. Cost of living per month should not change if you keep the new car for approximately the same duration going forward. Monthly expense is what matters, not residual.

I was contemplating a new MS last December to transfer my SC01 from my high-mile 2014 85. Tesla offered $8500 trade-in. I sold the car privately for $20000.
Ended up not spending $75K for a new MS, and instead bought a low-mile '16 refresh 75D. It has SC01, so if I'm feeling rich in the future, and Tesla offers transfer, I may jump on it.
My assumption is that when Tesla allows transfer of SC01, the new car gets the non-transferrable option (SC05 or 06?).

I traded in my 2015 P85DL Dual charger MCU2 virtually flawless car with 97k km on a 2022 refreshed Plaid (motorized tilt screen etc) and while it went like hell, I miss my old car and so does my wife.

There was just something about the 2015 that made it great (for us, it’s hard to put into words, but I’ll try

The sunroof
Free Supercharging
Free connectivity
Lane changes on autopilot
Summon
Autopark
Almost no nags on autopilot
She liked large storage btw seats for her bag and it made it feel much roomier in the front
Distance in centimetres to objects when parking. Technically my 2022 plaid could do that, but they haven’t offered USS in two years now
The P85DL was fast enough, but the Plaid was just plain scary, my wife and most passengers did not want to feel that car at anything above 1/4 let alone full acceleration. When I was on my own there was times I just didn’t feel right after a few hard runs, not to mention worried about my license!

I sold my 2022 after 8m and thankfully didn’t lose a whole heck of a lot. I found someone that wanted exactly that colour combo and option list and did OK.

I bought my wife a Model Y LR and we’ve both been enjoying that, just wish we had of got to performance model. But at times it surprises me how hard it accelerates, it’s pretty good.

So now I’m shopping for an older Tesla for myself again. I know it seems like a step backwards, I know, and should’ve never sold the 2015. That’s just me, not knocking the newer car, the screens, the technology, etc, it was definitely an evolved version of the older car, and AP was so good. Maybe it was all the road trips we did in the other one my wife just found it more charming.

Is there any reason you dont want to sell as a private seller? I know of at least two people looking for MSPD's with FUSC. Im fairly certain theyd get you about 50% more than what Tesla offered.
Yes, you're right, I did sell privately, and did okay actually. yes, I got 50% more than Tesla's offer! The buyer didn't care about FUSC as he charged at home and work. My 2015 P85DL had FUSC and I lost that. I'm looking to get another MS with FUSC and ride out the year or two and trade for a refreshed 2025 or so Plaid. I believe Tesla did allow transferring FUSC as long as both cars were in the same account.

Do you have the boost option enabled?
No, I'm holding out, thinking of getting the Juniper update next year which may be 510HP or hopefully more, if it's competing (at the dragstrip!) with the Macan EV Turbo. We all have a feeling the new drivetrain is capable of 600HP! I just can't see that Macan with 630HP cleaning up the Tessy over and over again at the 'strip, Elon will not stand for that! How long did the 2020 Taycan Turbo S beat the 2019 MS Performance before the Plaid was released? A few months?! Without adding a 2-speed gearbox.
