P85D 19" tire pressure recommendation is now 50psi

Auto mfrs have been rating correct pressures for years.
Actually, auto manufacturers have been lowballing pressure for years because the marketing department wants a soft ride. In some cases it catches up with them (remember Explorer with Firestones?)

I can assure you that if you run the vehicle placard pressure of 35 psi on a First Gen Prius, you'll be lucky to get 15,000 miles out of the tires.

... and you won't hit their MPG rating.

I get the sticker, but not the logic (unless the sticker is referring to the 265's in which case maybe).
For same tire width, lower profile has to be higher pressure, unless you want to take the edges off

Logically - maybe
But per sticker - Not really

Sent an email to ServiceHelpNA last night and here's the response this morning:

Tire Pressure for the 19" tires off the P85D
May 10, 2015 at 1:18 AM

Hello Mr. G,

Thank You for contacting Tesla Motors Technical Support. TESLA motors recommends the tire pressure on a P85D with 19” tires be set to 45 psi as stated on the inside door jamb.

If you have any further questions or concerns feel free to contact Technical Support 24/7 at
[email protected] or by phone at 1-877-79-TESLA (83752).

Hi,

I've seen threads on forums that state that Tesla's official recommendation for 19" tires on P85Ds is 50 psi now rather than 45 psi as on the door sticker?

Can you please confirm?

Thanks!
-G

Hmm. Very contradictory answers. Pondering if I should stay with the 45 PSI on my trip to Custer SD this week or try 50 PSI.

The response gg_got_a_tesla received is clearly wrong. It's a response from one individual who probably looked at the wrong table, or the wrong line in the right table, or in some other way just made a mistake. The table and the revised door stickers are pretty solid evidence that Tesla is now recommending 50 psi as the pressure for the 19" tires on P85Ds. The contradictory information is just Tesla being Tesla, but it's pretty clear what information is the most current and accurate.

Edit: Here's a post from another thread, with a picture of the sticker (from an S85D)-

You should respond with the chart from the post right above yours (post number 49) and ask how their answer to you is consistent with the chart.

There's also a picture of a door sticker in another thread, showing the 50 psi recommendation. You could include that too.

edit: I thought I'd canceled this post after I went back and reread the thread again. Apparently I just canceled an edit and left the original draft up.

@gg_got_a_tesla
, Glad to know you are following up on it. It took me 3 or 4 rereads to get all the details straight.
