Wiki Model S Delivery Update

I learned from my delivery specialist that the order of VINs doesn't reflect the production schedule. Here's what he wrote:
Tesla [does not produce] vehicles sequentially based on VIN. There are vehicles destined for San Diego that went into production last week with a VIN higher than yours (P635xx), and there are vehicles set to be produced the week your Model S is scheduled to, with a VIN much lower than yours (P615xx).

Apparently, numerous factors play into the timing of an order's manufacturing date.

its happening!

I just took delivery 2 days ago and my car is absolutely mind-blowing -- totally blows me away in every department... awesome car. I set up GPS Homelink today and it works great, even with my metal garage door.

Observations... I have just a very slight tilt of the "steering wheel trim" to the right... wheel/tire alignment is fine and the car tracks straight on a flat road with no pull, just the steering wheel is slightly tilted. In typical very great Tesla service fashion, they immediately offered to valet a loaner to me at their next available slot, so will take them up on that. I do have to be careful to fully press in the UMC connector. I think I'm being firm but have sometimes still gotten a "flashing yellow" meaning it's simply not fully latched... but pressing in good and solid fixes that, so far. I noted the possibility of the handles pulling in and "slightly pinching" one's fingers if one isn't careful, but I've read there is a low-force spring in there that can't hurt you, and actually I think the handle auto-pushed back out when it detected my hand in it's way.

The car is so quiet... so smooth to drive and handle... plenty powerful... and absolutely beautiful to look at. Tunein radio works great (haven't tried Slacker yet), automatic climate control is great in this cold weather... heated seats also great. I do make use of the folding mirrors going into my garage... another great feature. I could go on and on.

I am just absolutely thrilled to be an owner and feel tremendous Thanksgiving and Gratitute to Tesla for awe-inspiring engineering and the creation of an absolutely fabulous car and very great service center and personnel! My Freemont Factory Tour in October was also great.

For anyone wondering -- Model S -- worth every penny! :)

Hey there, thanks... yeah most amazing car I've ever driven -- like a car from the future, in every way.

It wasn't that long from build completion to delivery. I think that shipping only took like 1-2 weeks or so. Then they had the car and actually my delivery was delayed by 1 day due to a part being mandated from HQ to be installed.

Yes I took delivery at Rockville -- great guys and a good experience. I don't think they have a lot of accessories there. They might have more access to those at the "Showroom store" in Montgomery Mall:

Find Us | Tesla Motors

But probably your best bet is to order them online. The default floor mats are nice enough. I too am possibly considering all weather mats at some point... might possibly be a Xmas present or something ;).

In other news I've been debating getting something like Gtechniq Crystal Serum from a local detailer... I don't think I'm up for a wrap like Xpel, tho' I know those are more protective of chips and such.

I still have a bunch of "setup" stuff to do on the car... fun stuff ;).

Actually, the Rockville SC has some accessories. The show rooms do not. They only have clothing. Tesla charges a lot for shipping. If you can pick up whatever you need at Rockville it will save you some cash. Just give them a call to see if they have what you're looking for.

my car is on a truck to rockville and "should be here in a few days." DS wont give me an updated delivery date. If it some how takes 2 weeks of sitting in rockville i'll be pretty pissed (scheduled for 17th). I, however, dont think that will be the case. would love to get it this weekend or early next week.

I am a manufacturing guru. The Model S does not go into production in VIN # order. There can be many reasons for this: If you had a semi truck waiting for cars to be delivered to Florida, wouldn't you want consecutive Florida cars coming off the line. Or perhaps you ordered a special wood trim (like I did) and they have a delay getting that specific wood to the assembly line. I am still in the queue and have a Dec 27 delivery estimate on VIN 66077. This blog has been tremendously helpful to me and I bet it is even more helpful to Tesla to get get feedback, both positive and negative. I am a fairly steady / rational guy and I have never been part of a cult before - it's a lot of fun.
