little Roadster mysteries

For sure. Which of course is part of their charm. 

The next Tesla Roadster (whenever it arrives: 5 years from now?) will be a far more sophisticated and technically precise car. No "mysteries".

Model S mysteries: what is the battery pack temperature? What is the power electronics temperature? What is the motor temperature?

None of those things are mysteries in the Roadster - we can get that data. We can't on Model S. It's extremely useful information for driving on a track, or in extreme cold - but it's not available.

So even as Tesla refines things, they hide things.

They really should have an "advanced info screen", which shows you things like:

  • TPMS tire pressures for all four wheels
  • TPMS tire temperatures for all four wheels
  • Battery pack temperature (just an aggregate number - this would be hugely useful for winter trip planning)

Ideally also the following:

  • Rotor temperature (for performance driving)
  • Drive inverter temperature (for performance driving)
  • Drive train coolant temperature (also potentially useful for winter driving)

(I realize the coolant system is much more complicated than the above would suggest... but just a few aggregate numbers would be very useful.)

Hopefully this stuff will become available by the time the next gen Roadster appears. In the meantime we have significantly more information with the original Roadster than we do with Model S.
