The "R" production numbers were assigned to family and friends of Roadster owners, and there are only 400+ of them. I think you're confusing this with your "reservation" number. That's a whole different thing.
Sounds like your production number is really something like P#XXXX.

Thanks. I have a RESERVATION SEQUENCE NUMBER of 8,781. There's no P in the number. I also have a Reservation Confirmation Number with an RN in front of six numbers. Should I conclude that I have an issue to be concerned about?

You're a P or Production reservation number since the R (Roadster friends and family) didn't go that high. The Reservation Sequence Number is the correct term but the R for those that have it doesn't stand for Reservation in that case. That's nothing to worry about. When did you reserve? If it was early 2012, that would be about right for a P in the 8,000 range.

They (tesla) don't really use the letters any more to distinguish what type of reservation you have anymore because the only thing left to reserve right now is General Production (which once upon a time they identified with a P). There used to be Founder, Signature, Signature Special, and Roadster Family and Friends. If you have a number in the 8000s you are what we would have called a P, because none of the other reservation types topped 1500.

Thanks so much for clearing this up for me. I made my reservation in early May 2012.

I finally got my pre-delivery MVPA and signed it. About a 3 day delay from when I locked in my config to getting my MVPA documentation.

To my surprise the sales tax numbers were lower than expected. I'm guessing Tesla somehow applied the Motor Vehicle Excise Tax - Tax Credit for Electric Vehicles since the difference from what I thought it should be was exactly $2000. Paid for my supercharger option

waiting on mine configured Thursday afternoon 430 Pacific Standard Time I'm curious how long ago You did yours. Also did you receive this on a Sunday?

Actual practice is that I (and others, reading from the various posts) was asked for payment in advance.

The quote from specialist in Question 8 regarding my delivery details:

"8. How do you plan to pay for the remaining balance on your Model S? Once we generate your delivery paperwork we will communicate the final amount on your bill. Wiring the money a few days in advance is one option available, or I am able to accept a check on the day of delivery."

I don't have time to search for the other post, but I recall others saying something similar.

I'll score that even. ;-)

@artsci - I went and re-read my MVPA as well and it states: "The Amount Due from Buyer shown above must be paid at the time the Vehicle is delivered."

ymmv...

Yup, depends on the state. Some states have laws on the books (thanks to local dealership "lobbying") that prohibit direct delivery. So Tesla has to jump through a hoop of handing the car off to a middle man ...

Perhaps if the dealers weren't so sleazy they wouldn't need laws to force you to buy from them.
