From the photos it looks like they may work out better than I had originally thought without a spacer. The portion of the grill under the "Focal" does stick out beyond the enclosure from the looks of it, but not too noticeable when behind the headrest. It also looks like the grills are slightly above the surface of the speaker enclosure, so Tesla may have actually used some sort of a thin spacer under the speaker flange. My car is away right now or I would double check.
