Alliant credit union and gap insurance

Alliant's rates in MD were not 1.49% when I inquired. I put quite a bit down, so I don't need GAP, but my credit union (who I got my loan through) offers it for $299. Another credit union I am eligible for, Navy Federal offers it for $199 I think (you have to be a member). It pays to check around. I wound up with my current lender because the credit union offers a program where they rebate 1% of the loan (and their rate was pretty good at 2.19%) I checked, and the rebate wound up being a better deal than a slightly lower interest rate (but not better than 1.49%...but I could not get that)
