    Buying a refreshed 2021-2022 Model S 35k miles vs 45k miles or a 2024 Model 3

I'm sort of debating the Used Model S vs refreshed Model 3 right now too. I've test driven the model 3 recently and the new suspension was great, I'm not sure if I could confidently say that the model s that I test drove a week earlier was any better. Both are significantly better than my...

Debating the switch to 18 inch wheels from the 20 inch inductions

So I test-drove a model 3 highland (RWD) and it was a lot smoother than my model Y with no rumbling. If my model Y drove like this I'd have zero complaints about the car. It has me thinking of moving to a model 3 but lots of pros/cons with that one.

Model 3 RWD got beat by an Audi turbo

I have a MY LR with performance boost and just test drove Model 3 RWD and it felt very zippy to me. Honestly, there's something about RWD cars that are just fun to drive and they feel faster than they are, to me at least.

Debating the switch to 18 inch wheels from the 20 inch inductions

I'm open to something being off with my particular car and really it's just the rumbling noise it makes over my local roads or bumps -- I'm actually okay with the actual ride quality even though it's a little rougher than my other cars.

Debating the switch to 18 inch wheels from the 20 inch inductions

Totally agree -- it's my only real complaint with the car, but it's kind of a big one. I would say it gets harder to overlook the longer I have the car to the point where I now will take my wife's ID.4 when I drive after work. I prefer the Tesla in every way over the ID.4 otherwise but...

    Used Model S (after refresh)

Nice! Thanks for all the info. I did order that front camera for my Y (or something like that) and just haven't gotten around to install it yet.
  7. I

    Used Model S (after refresh)

That's kind of my fear, that I'm more likely to get one of the non-good ones buying used as obviously someone decided not to keep it. Probably, a paranoid fear, but it's there. Congrats on the car, though!

    Used Model S (after refresh)

I really wasn't thinking Plaid, but I just happened to see one with full self driving and that got me intrigued -- I have seen some good deals on non-plaids as well and if I did do this I have a feeling that might win out in the end.

    Used Model S (after refresh)

Hi all, I have a Model Y and the only complaint I have is the ride quality and sound it makes on local roads. I've test driven the Model S and both the wife and I really liked it quite a bit but I could not justify the steep cost. Recently I've seen prices on used Model S that are starting to...

Debating the switch to 18 inch wheels from the 20 inch inductions

Yeah, I That's kind of my expectation. There are a lot of cars with 20" wheels that are super smooth (my wife's ID.4 for example) which makes me believe that tire size is not that huge of a factor in ride quality.

Debating the switch to 18 inch wheels from the 20 inch inductions

Keep us posted if you get a chance. I'm thinking about doing the same thing -- mainly in hopes of getting a little more comfort out of the MY and extra range would be a nice bonus.

    My Pride Shattered!

Yeah, all kinds of stuff breaks on ICE vehicles too we just don't panic as much when we read about them because they aren't new tech. When I was researching Hyundai Santa Fe hybrids there were a couple of people on reddit that had the car keep dying on them randomly while driving -- it was...

    FSD Beta v11.x

First road trip (1000 miles round trip) with FSD and overall I was really happy with it. I know it's basically autopilot on the highway -- but I have found FSD to be better than AP on highways with the exception of crazy lane changes. I was pretty worried about phantom braking and crazy lane...

Phantom Braking getting worse - any ideas on how to stop it?

I did my first road trip with my Model Y -- only 1000 miles round trip but I figure I used FSD 95% of the time on the highway. Lucky for me my dreaded fear of phantom braking never came to fruition. I had zero phantom braking incidents and had a great experience with FSD with only a couple of...

    FSD Beta v11.x

I recently test drove a Model S that had FSD enabled and for some reason it got me to resubscribe to it on my Model Y (plus, my wife loves the FSD visualization -- perfectly reasonable reason to spend $200 a month). Anyway, I've been using it a little more and actually have enjoyed my time with...

2023 Model S: The best camera, is no camera at all

I believe it's just the uss sensor for the falcon doors and they removed the USS sensors everywhere but on the door.
  17. I

2023 Model S: The best camera, is no camera at all

And some people just like the way Teslas drive. I like the instant torque and the near silent acceleration -- it's a much more fun car for me to drive than my wife's ID.4 even though that car has more features. Other people find this boring and like to hear engine noises and feel a car...

    FSD Beta v11.x

It would be an interesting alternate universe if Tesla had concentrated on mastering AP/FSD on highways first -- instead they've completely lost their lead in the practical side of self-driving in pursuit of the robo-taxi dream. Of course, maybe they wouldn't have received all the free...

FSD Transfer Offer - COMPLAINT wrt totaled car

That stinks. I will never purchase FSD outright because of their policies. I don't get why they do this either -- I'd think they'd want to make you more likely to buy another Tesla by allowing transfers in all cases and also encourage people to buy FSD in the first place (like I need my Tesla...

Irresponsible thoughts of upgrading my Y to an S

Totally agree it's not a logical want at this point. I drove the Y tonight on some of the worst roads in the city and with the fan on high and listening to music I wasn't really bothered by the noise or ride quality at all. There are so many great things about the Y -- I just have to focus on...
  21. I

Irresponsible thoughts of upgrading my Y to an S

Yeah, I thought about putting something back there to see if it dampens the noise. I did ride with the back seats down for a while when I first got it, but I forgot what difference that made so I'll try it again. Thanks for the suggestions!
  22. I

Irresponsible thoughts of upgrading my Y to an S

Thanks everyone -- I for sure want the S, it's such a cool car, it's just hard to justify almost 40K difference at this point between the trade in value of the Y and the S. I've actually resorted to driving with the bioweapon defense mode on when driving on my crappy roads. It's crazy, but it...
  23. I

Irresponsible thoughts of upgrading my Y to an S

Yeah, I wouldn't say the S was super quiet, but I don't need it to be perfect just a bit better than the Y. Man, I shouldn't have test drove the S, my Y seems so bumpy and noisy now. I'm going to keep my eye out for a good used long range S. I'm assuming I want the refresh?
  24. I

Irresponsible thoughts of upgrading my Y to an S

Yeah, the Binnacle is pretty cool. I thought I might be annoyed by how low the car is but I've driven sedans most of my life and it was fine. I'm morbidly curious about the Yoke -- I kind of like trying new things and the view of the binnacle seems really nice. Sigh -- the S is really a nice...

Irresponsible thoughts of upgrading my Y to an S

(sorry, noticed I posted this in the driving dynamics sub forum, not sure how to move) Hi all, I purchased a Model Y in January 23 and like it for the most part but with the recent price drop of the the model S I've been toying with trading in the Y and getting an S. My big complaint with the...

Autopilot was about to kill me

I really wish there could be multiple levels of "FSD." I just want a car that has the best lane keep assistance/steering as possible, that handles stop lights for me (and alerts me when it's going to do so, so I can tell when it's not seeing the sign or light) and will change lanes...
  27. I

Phantom Braking getting worse - any ideas on how to stop it?

It would be nice, but I doubt it. From what I hear the camera improvement is post-processing improvements -- so the car is not seeing things anymore clearly it's just presenting us with a better image than we used to get. Just what I heard the Youtube though, so I could be wrong for sure.

11.4.4 FSD has become to dangerous to use

LOL, yeah -- I simply don't believe these youtubers. Also, they have a super high tolerance for annoying the *sugar* out of all the other drivers on the road. Like you I don't really want something to take over driving from me, but I love testing it out as a super tech feature. I've played...

7 months later [review after 7 months ownership]

Six months into mine. Things I love: 1. Driving dynamics. It's just fun to drive. 2. The user interface/interior. I love the minimalism and don't miss buttons at all. The controls on the steering wheel are great and I have no problem adjusting the AC or seeing how fast I'm going. I just...

Phantom Braking getting worse - any ideas on how to stop it?

Haven't watched the video yet , but it's just basic TAC with lane centering and from my experience it's super smooth and it works on every road I've tried it on. In fact it worked a lot better than my MY on the highway for a while because the MY used to drift over to exit lanes and then jerk...

Phantom Braking getting worse - any ideas on how to stop it?

I really don't get a chance to use AP that much, I just hear so much about PB on Teslas and not on other cars. I still believe that other manufacturers version of AP are at least as good now for highway driving. Frankly, my Wife's ID4's "AP" is a lot less stressful to use and I think I would...

    FSD Beta v11.x

Newest version of FSD beta has been interesting. For me, though, it's been a one step forward, two step backwards thing. (apologies in advance for my terrible attempts to describe this stuff) Improvements: 1. It fixed an issue that it had with a tricky turn lane on the way to my work that I...
  33. I

Phantom Braking getting worse - any ideas on how to stop it?

Aye, that would drive me crazy. I really don't have much need for auto-pilot, but I honestly would steer people away from Tesla if driving assist was important to them. I just think it's a fundamental problem with their system at this point that won't be resolved without a major change. It's...

What features do you wish the Model Y came with (Dec 2022/Jan 2023) Wishlist

    1. I'd like the driving visualization to show more of what's going on behind me. I can see what's in front of me easy enough. 2. Acoustic improvements. It's the only thing that makes me wonder if this is the right car for me. I'm not even sure it's any louder than my wife's ID4 but there...

    Ioniq 5 vs Model Y

It's really crazy how subjective looks are. I was so prepared to love the looks of the Ioniq 5 because most people love it but all I see is a station wagon trying too hard. I admit that I'm in a small minority here and that objectively the design is a huge success, but my wife didn't like it...

Tesla Y Back windows open occasionally on their own?

I had/have the same problem. I set up a service appointment but because I didn't have the times that the window events occurred they asked if it could wait until I get some examples. Of course, since then it hasn't happened (about five days now). Not a big deal at all, it just opened the back...

    V11 Actual Experiences

Just got the latest version last night and had it drive me to work and back (about 8 miles round trip) and for the first time it did it with no mistakes and was smooth for the most part. Pretty cool. I tried it this morning on a different route and it still makes a mistake where it doesn't...

    Windows KEEP rolling down

Sorry didn't see this. I have a service appointment for this tomorrow, but they are asking for times and dates this has happened (pretty reasonable) and I have not logged them of course. So I'd suggest notating the times and dates of a few of these occurrences and then making a service ticket...

    Ioniq 5 vs Model Y

I drive my Wife's ID 4 a lot and it's no easier for me to see the speed on either car, I'm either looking down or to the right for a nano second. It was weird the first week I had the MY with no light from the instrument cluster at night, but now I like it and have no issue focusing after...

    Ioniq 5 vs Model Y

I really don't get the car media's obsession with buttons and instrument clusters. I love the Model Y's interior and I don't want more screens, buttons, or any other crap in the interior. I totally get why others may prefer instrument clusters, buttons, etc. and that's great for them as every...

Having second thoughts on picking up MYP

Agree. When I was agonizing over whether to pick up the MYLR without the USS sensors I forced myself to think like this. I made the purchasing decision based on what the car had currently only and that gave me some clarity as I realized that I could live without parking sensors on my car...

Having second thoughts on picking up MYP

I have a 2023 MY without the parking sensors and it bugged me a lot out of principle until my wife got her ID4. I definitely prefer not having parking sensors to the constant beeping I get out of the ID4 pulling in or out of my garage (I swear I'm more likely to hit something due to the...

    Windows KEEP rolling down

HI all, Is it time to contact service about random windows opening after the car has been parked for a bit? I know it's a relatively common problem but it keeps coming back. When it happens I'll try to reset/calibrate the windows and it generally goes a way for a week or so but it's starting...

    FSD Beta 10.69

Yup, I have a route to a Quick Trip that the GPS is off on location and it gets really confused as it turns early. I have had to really good night drives with it recently, though. A few odd actions but I didn't need to intervene on 8 mile round trip travels. Honestly, if this had been built...

    Autopilot seems useless

Using the scroll wheels on the steering wheel seems to work for me. Still kind of annoying but not as bad as trying to figure out just how much torque to apply to the wheel (though I'm sure over time I'd get used to this too).
  46. I

    FSD Beta 10.69

Not sure if this is a great place to post this, but had a really good experience with FSD late last night (no traffic). It got me home from work (only four miles) without any intervention. It does drive unnaturally at times when making turns, enough so that I'd feel pretty awkward using it...

    Done with Teslas

I'm pretty sure I didn't torque the steering wheel for fifteen minutes straight last night, just used volume whenever it flashed. I was using fsd beta not autopilot though. (I'm in the US in case that makes a difference)

2023 Model Y Long Range Disappointment in boominess after Demo Drive

I did notice this at first and read all the threads and was super bummed. Then I realized that playing music while driving diminished this by 90% and then in a couple of days I didn't notice it even with the music off and it's been fine since. Others have not found this to be the case, but I...

    FSD Beta 10.69

I had a pretty good drive with FSD beta last night. It seems to alternate between good and terrifying every session -- maybe it's my expectations going in? FSD Ramble: This is all without traffic as I do it late at night, but it really had some impressive stretches where I once again thought...
