It may not matter what line it was on. IF they have to shut Fremont down for an investigation and until a determination (and correction) is made, the whole place may be shut down for a while. Let's hope not. But possible.

I'm not going to exhale until we see new VINs being assigned. For all we know, all cars being built yesterday need new interiors because they smell like burnt factory and charred hot dogs. And supposedly there's an investigation now because some smoke was released into the California air...

In all seriousness, I think the cafeteria in the Fremont factory is open to the factory floor. If there was that much smoke in there, it could have ruined a lot of stuff they use to make cars. Like seats for example. Assuming the "oven" where the fire started was a food oven and not a parts oven.

Dang. So somewhere my car exists. I got my VIN on 5/16. I'm in FL so I suppose it takes 2-3 weeks to go coast to coast. Makes sense.

I've been following this thread and don't know the answer to this simple question... When a VIN is assigned, does that mean the car is already built? Is on the line being built? Will be built soon? Or none of these (we don't know)?

Another thing I just realized is that the battery pack in the M3P is different than the SR and LR which is why the M3P gets the tax credit. Maybe there's some final red tape associated with qualifying the M3P's Panasonic battery for the tax credit?

Anyone given any thought as to what is unique about the M3P that is so different from the LR that it would give the U.S. govt hemmorhoids? Is it really just the EPA figure? Can't be that, right... Why would that stop deliveries of cars already built?
