Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

460KW, 👍 now we need to see some 1/4 miles times 😀

used p100ds now are dirt cheap. What's going on?

As a Model S 90D owner with the FSD upgrades gonna have to strongly disagree. Along with the MCU 2 upgrade, you have most of the new capabilities

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

in addition, you get less tirewall so hitting potholes is more likely to cause wheel or tire damage. Not to mention the reduction in range. Wish they would offer an 18 or 19” option without those trade offs for people who don’t care about racetracks.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I just came here to say, guys… Relax, Tesla is not putting a Ludicrous badge on the new Model 3P unless it does a 2.X 0-60

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

To be clear, not saying the 1/4 mile is nerfed on the Model S, but the 0-60 times. Based on trap speeds it should be able to hit high 2.x 0-60

This happens all the time but the truth is the sales people know even less than us forum people

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Pictures of the early M3P sightings in Fremont also show the Ludicrous badge. All but confirms it will be in the prior Ludicrous performance range. I’m expecting high 2.x 0-60 and high 10.x 1/4 mile performance numbers. Maybe we’ll see an un nerfing of the Model S long range to match?

Demon 170 taken down by Plaid....

Nice passes Brooks! Just shows how far EV performance has come... Makes no sense to sacrifice practicality for speed when you can have both with the Plaid S

Model S/X minor refresh coming soon?

Neither can be dropped without lowering overall platform volumes by 50% and likely making the S/X program much less profitable.

Model S/X minor refresh coming soon?

Theoretically they could put a voltage step up adapter as a work around. You could get away w this if it were a single system vs many but you may be right or maybe they’ll make a native 12v version for S,X,3 and Y. There’s a huge incentive to share as many parts as possible to reduce costs. I...

Model S/X minor refresh coming soon?

Now that we’ve seen the new tech on the Cybertruck my speculation is when it shows up on the S. Bumper cam we knew about but the steer by wire system was a surprise and a miss from the original S with the yoke. Removing the need to rotate past 180* fixes a lot of the UX issues with yoke but...

Can anyone with a new LR post their experience?

Awesome, glad to have you here!

Can anyone with a new LR post their experience?

I'd like to believe that the S LR has carbon wrapped motors but the performance data so far looks more in line with the old P100D acceleration to 100. That seems to be more inline with it not having carbon wrapped rotors, or having software limited power curves to protect the P margin. I...

Can anyone with a new LR post their experience?

Thanks for sharing! I noticed the same guy posted an acceleration video vs a 2018 Model 3 P. Running it with youtube stats enabled I timed the 0-60 at ~3.26 seconds for this particular run, within the margin of error considering we don't know the battery SOC A few more interesting...

Can anyone with a new LR post their experience?

Sorry I'm a bit more skeptical, omission does not equal facts... Some history for context: 1. Tesla shipped the Model 3 dual motor with the same exact motors as the Model 3 Performance, but software limited. 2. Tesla lists performance 0-60 with rollout subtracted but lists other 0-60 stats...

Can anyone with a new LR post their experience?

You'd be a hero around here if you could post some draggy times or something similar. That's awesome to hear about the pickup at higher speeds - does it feel like it holds torque like the Plaid does? I have a performance model 3 and like the Y the torque drop off after 60 mph is noticeable.
  19. P

Can anyone with a new LR post their experience?

I'd also really like to know if the Model S long range has uses the same carbon wrapped rotors. The 0-60 in 3.1s is excellent especially considering that the time quoted is not with rollout subtracted. More importantly if the LR can keep the high torque after 60mph it will be a huge...

Any direct control to battery pre-condition?

I've found if you set the charge limit a few percentage points higher and start charging that will engage the battery heater. If you do this for 15-20 minutes before you go you can get about 50% regen.

    New Long Range Model S

The carbon sleeve on the rotor reduces eddy currents which cause back EMF which is the reason Tesla's motors designs to date all lose a lot of power at high RPMs. Reference: https://www.arnoldmagnetics.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ArnoldWP_-Automotive_FINAL-1.pdf However, by using a...

    New Long Range Model S

The Plaid powertrain leverages carbon sleeved rotors on both rear motors which is the trick to maintaining power at high RPM. Tesla doesn't advertise the dual motor powertrain featuring that but... Tesla also likes to reduce manufacturing complexity, so it's possible the rear motor in the dual...

Model S range and interior update imminent?

Love the new S overall but disappointed that the Plaid models only come with Carbon fiber trim as an option. Also the your wheel options are now down to ugly but efficient and nice looking but inefficient (21"), I much prefer the old 19" style wheels. I've heard too many horror stories with...

Model S range and interior update imminent?

The reddit leaker bigteslaguy stated that the refresh would use 18650 cells. He was spot on about the Model 3 refresh that came out recently. So I think his info was at least correct / current at the time he shared. That said, I'm sure the battery will be a major step up in cooling and...

Model S range and interior update imminent?

Carbon likely means replacing the copper windings with carbon. It’s lighter and can save up to 50% of the losses due to resistance. For example a 90% efficient motor becomes 95%. Besides improving efficiency and range, it also helps with the cooling problem in high performance applications...

FSD rewrite will go out on Oct 20 to limited beta

Navigate on Autopilot is Useless (2018.42.3)

The lane selection issue still seems like low hanging fruit to me. The car can tell if it's in the right most lane based on vision, but if the map data is wrong, it will sit in the wrong lane approaching an exit it knows is on the right side and miss the exit. There's a stretch of road my my...

Isn’t it obvious he’s worried about the pending disaster in Q2 financials. I really don’t think this is about his stock. It’s about his baby (Tesla)

How much horsepower in the P3D "at the crank?"

The car measures power output from the battery, I think comparing that to crank HP is reasonable because the battery is where the power is coming from, where as in an ICE car the power is coming from the engine. I dug this one up recently after the 5% boost in November 2019 was released which...

    Coronavirus

Not long ago the market massively under appreciated TSLA, then decided it was worth 5x the price less than a year later... We won’t see the real impacts to earnings for another 3 months but at some point unemployment and loan defaults will matter. Stocks are trading like we won’t have but a...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

My educated guess is we'll be under extreme restrictions for at-least 2-3 months at a minimum. If the US can get its act together and coordinate a consistent policy response at the federal level then we may be able to relax some restrictions at that point along with massively scaled up testing...

    Coronavirus

Interesting, only 39% of those tested (4794 of 12222) are male, yet the ratio of positive tests for males is much higher 17.7% vs 12.5% for females tested. Why are females being tested at a rate of 1.5X that of males? Perhaps they are more likely to seek testing? If this skew exists in other...

Right, the state by state, city by city patchwork of approaches makes me think the US may end up with the worst outcomes among developed nations. We need to rapidly scale testing and methods of public health surveillance to be able to get back to a "new normal".

Things don't go to *sugar* overnight, we are only a few weeks into lockdowns in several big states. We saw 3M new unemployment claims today.. To put this in perspective I've included the historical chart. Mnuchin says they are not relevant. If we know this is all caused by a virus, does that...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I remember all the rip roaring bounces we had on the way to the March 2009 bottom during the last big crisis. The market is still pricing this like it will be over in a few months. Based on the modeling I’ve seen were going to be seeing limited economic activity for many more months. When we...

I don't think we're there yet. I'm seeing job losses all around and we are still not even a month into this. Small businesses have already started folding and this will likely cascade. Unemployement is going to spike, and despite what banks were saying about how strong their balance sheets...

Love this idea, it’s essentially a binary search applied to testing and should scale near log(n) of the total test need which would flatten the testing demand curve quite literally.
