I don't touch the pause button and it's fine for days. I still had corruption when pressing the pause button and pulling the USB drive out. Someone recommended doing a shutdown from the car menu before removing, which I will try eventually.
I don't think Tesla fixes it the correct way by properly umount the USB before power off. I notice the camera icon comes on later than before when I start up the car. I speculate that when it detects disk corruption, instead of throwing up an "X" and stop working, it runs a check disk to fix the corruption.
Not sure yet. I got the gray x before upgrading to 42.2. Now it's had a red dot for a day or two. Will keep monitoring to see if that turns into an x after a few days.
