Reading the blog for day 3, it looks like they finally admit they wanted to do a speed record for crossing instead of just charging all along (otherwise, they could have slept at night!):

If they really want to set a speed record, they'd do it in April or May. And they might try it again, perhaps with X too.

After graduating from college, I left Baltimore MD at 7pm on Sunday evening and arrived in Oakland CA at 6am on Wed morning. 2 drivers, one night of sleep in Cheyenne WY. 62 hours door-to-door. Young and stupid.

They may have wanted to prevent the naysayers from pointing out how the good weather helped and how such a trip would not even be possible during the winter.

When you can succeed and prevail under the worst Winter weather conditions, Spring, Summer and Fall trips are no problem.

Excellent. FYI (may have already been discussed). There was no standing record to break I was told. The Guinness people had to set up a 'time to beat' to allow TM to be credited with a record. Makes sense that you have to have a 'starting point' for all records.
PS. The team was asked what the record was and did they have a good chance to break it at the Newark SC. They would not/could not divulge any info but I got the distinct impression that they had accomplished their mission.
