... I'm thinking of replacing the aluminum bottom cover with steel so that this doesn't happen again ;)

Interesting that you mentioned this! I designed a aluminum bottom covers for additional protection for the bottom tub, and had it water-jet cut out. I had a body shop that specializes in aluminum frame cars installed it, they used the same strength (or better) 2 part epoxy to bond it to the tub that Lotus uses.

Now I have over twice the protection for the bottom of the tub (where it's covered) :)
I forgot to measure the weight of the panels, I'm guessing it's no more than 20 pounds.

You don't by chance have a dimensional drawing of that front-most aluminum panel do you? My car has been missing that piece since I rebuilt it, these salvage auctions decide to throw everything away even if you could unbend it and use it... But now I need to get that panel made up for mine.
