The app logo should be easy to change and your advertising is all word of mouth and forums so people would know what to look for. Would think a T logo with similar colors would work as well.

Best of luck on your surgery.

Tesla should embrace this app. It is of benefit to their customers. Allen, have you been in communication with the "left hand," the person from Tesla that contacted you to ask about working on their official app? As others have stated, Tesla probably isn't even aware you received the communication from their attorneys. It may be as simple as adding language to the description on that app store, stating something to the effect that the app is not affiliated with Tesla Motors.

As a sidenote, everyone, take a look at the upper right-hand corner of this page. lol

Yea, version 2.0 will have a new icon, logo, and color scheme. That should resolve any conflict that they might have with Remote S.

Allen, have you been in communication with the "left hand," the person from Tesla that contacted you to ask about working on their official app?

The last I heard from them was that they wanted me to fly out to California and meet with them to see if I was a good fit in the company. I told them that I had major surgery coming up and will not be able to work in California for at least half a year. I never heard back from them again. I don't really mind, because I think they would have slowed me down, and also restrict me from talking publicly. There's probably labor laws against my 126-hour work weeks haha.

So since Tesla is forcing my hand with this trademark stuff, I have to release version 2.0 with the new icon/logo graphics now and cannot wait until voice control and background scheduler are finished. Here's the changelog for version 2.0 as promised:

iOS devices
1. New algorithm makes the app open faster and respond to commands even faster (if on WiFi, less than 1 second).
2. Command buttons now reflect the state of the car and have sound effects (can be muted in the settings or by the mute button on the side of your device).
3. Error messages now appear if a command fails. Turning on notifications allows the app to tell you if a command fails even if the app is put in the background after issuing a command. So now you can just fire-and-forget your command without waiting for confirmation afterwards.
4. Upside-down orientation enabled so that users can place the charging cable on the top of the device.
5. Top-left button now only opens and closes the command menu.
6. New command menu interface doesn't block the car stats when in the landscape orientation.
7. New wider slider controls for charge limit and driver/passenger temperature settings. Activate it by tapping on the Charge Limit %.
8. In-car scheduled charging start times are now displayed in the app if a scheduled charge is pending.
9. Shift states are now displayed above the speedometer.
10. Roof now shows the progress of the roof's position as it's moving.
11. Tapping on the top-left area of the car stats box (where the Current is) toggles the command menu.
12. Long pressing the middle-right area of the car stats box (where the Fan Speed/Outside temperature is) toggles climate control.
13. Long pressing the middle-left area of the car stats box (where the Voltage/Charge rate is) toggles lock/unlock.
14. Long pressing the bottom-right area of the car stats box (where the Ideal/Rated range is) opens the app settings page.
15. Long pressing the bottom-left area of the car stats box (where the Charge % is) opens the car selector and signout menu.
16. Tapping on the top-right area of the car stats box (where the Inside Temp is) toggles the roof settings menu if you have a pano roof installed. Otherwise it toggles the charge limit and temperature sliders.
17. Added user location to the map as well as the ability to follow the user's direction heading
18. Added the ability to save/load breadcrumbs to two different save slots. Simply make your route of breadcrumbs and then press the save button (floppy disk icon).
19. Added the ability to view your trip's statistics (including distance, kWh used, total cost, and more). This is displayed for your current trip as well as your two saved breadcrumb trips by tapping on the MPGe or Average Speed display.
20. Each breadcrumb on the map now shows you the speed, charge percentage (SOC), rated range, date, and odometer
21. Tapping on each pin's info bubble now gives you the distance from your car to the pin as well as directions on how to get there and the ability to copy the full address or coordinates to your clipboard.
22. Bandwidth efficiency: Updates now don't happen unless the screen is visible. Except in the case of a background fetch.
23. Added the amount of energy and miles (rated, typical, or ideal depending on your car settings) added in your latest charge session.
24. Added the ability to change the roof percent open by using a slider. You can also tap the roof above the slider to open and close the roof.
25. Long pressing the bottom-middle area of the car stats box (where the Esimated range is) unlocks the car and start keyless driving (TouchID or password still required).
26. Added the ability to compare the cost of your trip versus the cost of an equivalent car. Change the comparison car's stats and average gasoline price in the app settings to get a more accurate comparison.
27. Added the display of charger phases. For example, a (3) will appear next to the word "Current" when the charging phases is 3.

App settings menu added for iOS devices
- Always display the battery current even when not charging. This is useful to see how much battery is being used by the car when it's not charging.
- Always display the charge limit/temperature setting sliders when you open the command menu.
- Mute notification sounds for successful and/or failure commands
- Switch between km/mi regardless of car settings
- Switch between C/F regardless of car settings
- Enable more accurate car stats and display decimal points
- Enable a more accurate odometer
- Toggle voice control on startup
- Toggle the requirement for confirmation on car and charge port unlock
- Toggle the requirement for confirmation on opening the roof
- Set the minimum time between car status refreshes

Apple Watch
1. First screen on glance now displays interior and exterior temperatures on top and rated range when not charging.
2. Estimated range in the Glance view now properly display km if the car is set to display km.
3. Changing the charge limit will now do it instantaneously after each button press.
4. Bar graphic under the Fan Speed now ranges from 0-11.
5. Text at the bottom now show temperature readings and various ranges.
6. Glance now shows rated or ideal miles depending on your car settings.
7. New buttons added for more functionality including Max Cool and Max Heat.
8. Preset temperatures are now available when you Force Touch the watch in the temperature settings screen.

Both Watch and iOS
1. Increased security with user credentials. They are protected by the Apple Keychain.
2. Changed increments of Celsius to .5 instead of 1 degree.
3. Increased limits of temperature settings change to LO and HI.
4. Roof settings removed for users without a roof.
5. Charge port no longer has a close button for those without a motorized charge port.
6. Added Max Cool and Max Heat buttons that set the temperature to extremes and turns on the climate control.
7. Added the ability to disable remote control commands to the Tesla. This allows you to give the app to someone else, sign in using your Tesla username and password, and then that person can monitor your vehicle without the ability to control it. Great for letting your family members know where you are exactly without worrying about them touching the controls.
8. Changed charge port graphics for cars that don't have the U.S. charge port.
9. Charging rate, amps, volts now display when charging.
10. Car graphics now accurately show the different states of the car.
11. Charging font color now changes depending on the charging state.
12. New button icons. Crisper icons for iPhone 6 Plus. New "disconnected" icon for when the port is open but the car is not plugged in.
13. EU Vehicles now display "Typical" and "Rated" range labels.

Hello Allen,
You have a lot of people sending you best wishes through the ether on your upcoming surgery. Try your best to keep a positive attitude and do not over-do the programming while you recover. Rest is important to recovery and even your brain needs rest. The work you have done on this app is monumentally more impressive and exponentially better than TM's own app, which is lagging way behind now. I purchased a watch just to use your app. I donated to your Tip Jar fund today to show my support for you, your app and your recovery. I'm a medical person, and feel free to vent to me personally if you need to about any challenges going forward...

Allen good luck on your surgery, I tell my 10yo son about your story as a source of inspiration. Your work ethic and persona is as close to Elon Musk as anyone I've ever seen. Thank you for everything and have an excellent recovery!

It'd be a real shame if they couldn't find a way to just hire you as a consultant rather than as a full-time employee. After all, there's not going to be 40hrs/wk worth of work coding phone apps for Tesla cars. Now that you've got the bulk of the functionality enabled, it's probably going to be more like 10hrs here, 20 hrs there, etc in the long run.

Yes, 2.0 is a giant leap forward from version 1.x, which was already starting to put TM's official app behind. The app runs silky smooth and very fast. After background scheduling/voice control is added in version 3.0, it's going to be another giant leap forward. When I'm in recovery, I'm going to take things slowly. Thanks for adding to the Tip Jar fund. It means a lot to her, and that in turn, means a lot to me as well.

On changelog, iOS #16, I think you meant Top-Left where the inside temp is, not Top-Right.

That's an impressive list of changes, glad I bought this app. Thank you for the support and good luck with the surgery.

I moved things around, so the Inside Temp is on the top-right now. Top-left and middle-left area is now where the Current/Voltage/Charge rate is going to be if you're charging.

Looks like a great update. Can't wait to get it on my phone. I hope the graphics changes appease Tesla's trademark dogs. Thanks for making this app.

Note the new logo and color scheme in the screenshot above. If this doesn't appease them, then I don't know what will. Here's the new icon next to theirs:

Thanks to Teo5 for giving me the vector graphics for that car art.

+1

Allen, best wishes for your surgery from us all, in particular your supporters in Hong Kong. Thanks so much for your superb work. Have a good rest and a speedy recovery. ✌️✌

Thanks! It's always great to hear from supporters from Hong Kong, since my parents were from there.

I would not mind working as a consultant, and I suggested that to them.

Your efforts to help by make an app better than Tesla's has been both inspiring and disappointing. Inspiring since it shows what is possible, and disappointing because Tesla hasn't come close themselves. Best of luck with your surgery, recovery, and best of luck to the girl you're helping to support.

I don't use iOS devices for a bunch of reasons. So, I am hoping you'll eventually do an Android port of this app.

I don't generally see many things I feel compelled to donate to lately, but I had a bit of funds collecting dust in my Paypal account and sent them to your tip jar.

Good luck.

Great work Allen, and amazingly quick turnaround!

One item that may still be of issue to Tesla, based on the screenshot you attached above, is the "hamburger" icon on the top-left corner of the screen. This looks very similar, if not identical to Tesla's "E", which I believe you mentioned they specifically called out.

Otherwise, looks great to me! Thanks again for all your efforts and best of luck with the surgery (and the long drive down there).

That was very generous of you, Jason. There aren't many times in my life these days where I say "Wow!" involuntarily. Thanks for that. I'll be sure that the money gets to her before I leave for Florida this Saturday. Once I get past this trademark issue and finish version 3.0, I might consider an Android port. I am also waiting on Tesla to release new commands/API, because I don't want to make a port and then have to change everything again. And I would like if they officially gave me their blessing on the app, so I don't always feel paranoid with their lawyers breathing down my neck as I work.

Good call. I'll change it. After that change, I think they have nothing else to complain about.

Change it to the generic Android/iOS menu icon if you want to keep the same look, but the 3 lines isn't just a Tesla thing. Many companies have used that style, including Electroline, which is much older than Tesla.

One more thing, the shape of a vehicle can be considered a trademark/copyright as well (try getting your vehicle printed on your visa debit card, they'll reject it), but hopefully that won't be an issue here.

Already changed it back to what it is in version 1.x, just straight generic lines.
