Colorado HOA laws and using a 120 volt plug in parking garage

In theory, couldn't the HOA hit you with theft for using the outlet without permission? Here's an example of someone ending up in jail for this: EV Driver Jailed for ‘Stealing’ 5 Cents of Electricity Of course, that driver didn't own part of the school he was "stealing" from, but does that...

Colorado HOA laws and using a 120 volt plug in parking garage

Why does understanding basic concepts like legal entities and ownership mean I have a very, very sorry life? You're not entitled to use an outlet that doesn't belong to you. Belonging to an HOA you're a member of does not qualify. It's simple! Saying it's OK to plug in without permission...

Colorado HOA laws and using a 120 volt plug in parking garage

Neither the president nor OP own 1/60th of the outlet. The HOA owns 100% of the outlet, which means that the HOA gets to decide how it's used. OP and the president both own 1/60th of the HOA, but that doesn't mean they can use the HOA's resources at will. If the HOA grants them such use, then...

Colorado HOA laws and using a 120 volt plug in parking garage

The HOA is a legally separate entity from the residents, so the "he is paying for it" argument doesn't make sense, any more than it would if you plugged in without permission at a business you patronize. I'm surprised at how much entitlement is being displayed in this thread. I agree that the...

    Model S door handel failure

Apologies in advance, but this is irrationally bugging me: The word you want is "handle." Handel was a famous barque composer. We now return you to your regularly scheduled productive conversation, already in progress.

Colorado HOA laws and using a 120 volt plug in parking garage

On the fire hazard end of things, if you want to get cheeky (you probably don't), then write to express concern that several residents have been spotted storing volatile flammable chemicals in the garage.

    Should Supercharging Respect Charge Limit?

The only real reason to have a charge limit in the first place is to go easier on the battery, and that applies equally at SCs as anywhere else. I don't see why it should act differently there at all. I'd be very confused if I set a lower charge limit and then an SC blew right past it.

    Siemen's VersiCharge

That amps/speed chart assumes 240V. Many commercial installations are on 208V instead, since that's what you naturally get from three-phase commercial power. If this charger is on 208V, then knock off roughly 13% from those speeds. Possibly more if there's a lot of voltage drop, I've often seen...

    Advice on Home Charging Upgrade

I also support the advice to just keep your current charger. If you want to keep a J1772 adapter permanently on the charger and another one in the car, you can get a spare from Tesla for $95. Tesla's wall connector supports a variety of circuit ratings. It supports anywhere from 15A to 50A with...

Looking at Teslas: Charging at Home Options

A 240V outlet is best. That will fill up the car overnight and you won't have to worry. If your breaker box is nearby, any licensed electrician should be able to install a NEMA 14-50 outlet (best for a Tesla) for a few hundred dollars at most. 120V will work fine as long as you don't drive a...

Upgrading battery pack from 75Kwh to 90Kwh

It may well be possible technically, but I recall that Tesla wanted something over $20,000 to upgrade an 85 to a 90. 75->90 would probably be more. Even with your big investment in paint correction and such, I doubt it would be worth it.

Remote S: Tesla app for Apple Watch, iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch

Here's a potentially ridiculous idea for the multi-car case: add an option for the app to automatically switch to whichever car is closest when you launch it. I only have one car so this wouldn't make any difference for me personally, but it seemed like a fun idea to share.

Supercharger - New Jersey Turnpike Rest Areas - Molly Pitcher & Joyce Kilmer

Remember, we don't have the automatic off-ramp stuff yet, so when the driver is napping and letting Autopilot handle the driving, the car will naturally stay in the truck lanes. Expect all the Teslas to move into the car lanes once 8.1 ships. (Big fat sarcasm indicator, in case anyone couldn't...

    Supercharger - Aberdeen, MD

I recall Elon saying we'd be getting realtime Supercharger status in the nav display. That didn't happen on time (I think he said it would be in 7.1?) as is typical, but I bet it's part of their strategy for managing the flood of Models 3.

Colorado HOA laws and using a 120 volt plug in parking garage

The safety concern is silly. Are the outlets to code? If they are, then there's no problem. If not, then that needs to be fixed ASAP regardless of use. The cost argument is sensible, though. The cost is small, but not entirely negligible. You are making everyone else pay for what you're using...

    P75D Model S???

The only P models Tesla has sold have been 85s, 90s, and now 100s. There's no such thing as a P75D. Someone is just having a laugh.

    Flagstaff to Grand Canyon

If the SC is right next to the hotel, that works great too. You can be in your room or having breakfast or whatever while the car tops off. EVTripPlanner is usually spot-on with its estimates as long as you give it the correct inputs. Slowing down is indeed an easy way to extend your range if...

    Flagstaff to Grand Canyon

A 170 mile round trip should be no problem in a P90D. Use evtripplanner.com to see how much you can expect to use, but I can't imagine 170 real miles turning into 270 rated miles used. Looking at plugshare.com, I see an EV-friendly RV park in the area in addition to the Best Western. I don't...

NJ Raises Gas Tax By 23 Cents

Gas taxes are a fixed dollar amount per gallon. That means that inflation reduces their effective amount every year, as does increasing fuel efficiency. These taxes must be "raised" periodically just to keep pace.

    Supercharger - Woodbridge, VA

Sounds like a good plan. I don't think you'll have any problem at 7AM. Skipping is even better, but it shouldn't be an issue if you don't. Since much of your trip follows the same route as I took to Florida last year, you might be interested in the report I wrote up about it: Holiday trip...

What type of range hit can I expect in colder months?

I have 40A/240V charging at home so I don't think I'll need it, but I appreciate the offer just the same. And likewise for you folks if you need it in Fairfax. For your UMC, I'd especially watch out for plows or snowblowers after a storm. The cable will probably not appreciate the attention...

    Supercharger - Woodbridge, VA

20 minutes is possible if you're unlucky, I'd say. I think normally it would be more like 5-10 minutes, but there's a lot of potential variance. If you do use it, I think you're much better off when coming from the north if you take the second exit and approach from the south. I believe the...

    Waaaah! I don't have 8.0 yet!

The car automatically and silently downloads updates, and then you get the notification after it's downloaded and ready to install. Total speculation, but maybe there's a verification step after the download and that's what failed.

What type of range hit can I expect in colder months?

Ain't that the truth. My rage level is about six orders of magnitude lower compared to my pre-Tesla days. Good luck with your condo. I don't understand why places seem to be so resistant to this stuff. I understand that they'd want the resident in question to pay for it, but beyond that it...

    Firmware 8.0

It's really tricky. On one hand, the new version brings significant safety updates that they want to get out there as quickly as possible. On the other hand, the new version might bring catastrophic bugs. This gradual rollout seems to be their attempt to get it out reasonably quickly but still...

What type of range hit can I expect in colder months?

We don't really get proper winter here in the DC area, so I think you'll be fine. Range will take a hit, but not huge. I don't think 120V charging will be a big problem. When people talk about it adding zero energy because everything is going towards heating the battery, they're talking about...

    Waaaah! I don't have 8.0 yet!

I didn't realize that was possible. My no doubt imperfect recollection is that Autopilot started out as part of the Tech Package (as was the case when I ordered my car in December 2014) and then Tesla did away with the Tech Package, made navigation a default feature, split out Autopilot into its...
