I am officially in production as of today 11/26. I scheduled my delivery for 12/17......................

My car completed production 12/3 and is now being prepared for delivery. I think the service center should have it by early next week. I will take delivery on 12/17.

According to my Dashboard page at teslamotors.com, my car has been scheduled for delivery on 12/21 for over three weeks now (order placed and confirmed on 09/29) but it's status is still "Sourcing Parts" and I am getting a little concerned.

If your car went into production 21 days before delivery, my car is now just 17 days from delivery and it is still not in production. Is that typical?

(Note: I am taking delivery at the factory so no extra time will be needed to deliver my car to an SC)

Ordered and confirmed on 10/25, scheduled for deliver on 12/19. Dashboard says "sourcing parts". Communicated with DS today who confirmed it is still in pre-production, and warned we may end up being a week or so late. He did emphasize that it would be delivered before the new year for tax purposes. Waiting sucks, but it will get here when it is ready. Until then, the forums I will read!

My car went into production on 12/2 (dashboard flipped in the evening) and was completed 12/4 (dashboard flipped in the morning). That is actually a much shorter production time than what I thought was being previously reported. I do have the standard white paint, though. My delivery is currently scheduled for 12/10 but I have e-mailed my DS about an earlier delivery given that production was completed this morning.

In sum, I would not worry about your car not being in production yet, especially if you are in San Mateo, CA. They could technically start building your car just four days before pickup in Fremont and it would still theoretically be "on schedule".

Mine is scheduled to be delivered on the 16th to SC. I didn't go into production until yesterday and today I'm done (and my rep emailed me to confirm that it was ready to be shipped). So I'm pretty sure it was being built for a couple of days before the status changed on the my tesla site. I wouldn't put a lot of stock the site. If your getting nervous I'd discuss it with your delivery rep since he has more info

As others said, our car was "In Production" on a Friday and "Preparing for pickup or delivery" the following Wednesday. The Tuesday after that, we took delivery in Dallas. If you guys are ~2 weeks away from delivery, things are going to start happening very fast.

So I confirmed my S85 order on 3-Dec and my dashboard says:

Order Confirmed
We have begun sourcing parts for your Model S.

and...

Preferred Delivery

January, 2014

So does this mean Tesla anticipates a delivery date in January or only that I have supposedly "preferred" that delivery date (because, to be perfectly honest, I prefer delivery yesterday!)?

BTW, this is my first post and I've read a ton of posts already just trying to reverse engineer the order confirmation to delivery timeline and haven't figure it out...any information on what I should expect in terms of the sequence of updates and what I should expect is appreciated!

I can tell you what my experience has been so far. I confirmed 10/6 and received a VIN on 11/5. I received an e-mail from my Delivery Specialist a day or two after the VIN assignment (which shows up randomly on your dashboard) to set up the delivery appointment. She's been in touch with me via email a number of times since as I've completed other tasks (financing, electrical outlet installation, etc). I tried to get them to move up the "Preferred Delivery Date" also, but they automatically put up the soonest available date unless you specified otherwise when ordering. I ordered a 60kW, so 11 weeks from order to delivery as currently scheduled (12/21). Good luck!

Take a look at my Signature line. I purchased mine through the Marietta shop and am picking mine up TODAY. It was supposed to have been picked up last Wednesday, but there were some issues that had to be repaired first. My timeline ought to be about the same as yours.

Great...thanks @Chipper & @crmohler...your data points are very helpful. From your data, I'm guessing my next step (receiving a VIN) might fall between 2 weeks to one month from confirmation (which puts me at somewhere between 18-Dec and 6-Jan) and delivery around 7 weeks from the VIN date, so my guess then, is between 5-Feb and 26-Feb. Probably not in January, then, but at least I have a somewhat realistic idea to set my impatient expectations...I'll keep progress posted on this thread.

UPDATE - I just noticed my VIN showing up yesterday (could have been there for a couple days...wasn't looking for it, so I'm guessing I could be around 7 weeks out from delivery, but the guy who I did the test drive with felt it could be out of production on or before 25-Jan, because he was seeing things running a little early lately.

I figured it was time I created a signature block, because it "just got real". However, I can't figure out where in settings to make this permanent, so I'm saving it in a file and will remember to add it until someone tells me where I can make it permanent!
