Not Going to Make 2012?

P4996, VIN 2547 is officially marked as delivered according to Tesla, which means that I am on a truck and (apparently, hopefully?) in transit from Fremont to PA! Anybody else in the neighborhood expecting a delivery this week???

Like everyone else, I'm on the "2012 deliver - delivery me not" roller coaster ride. Would've made sense (and cents) to put our car on the same transport as yours since we are just 2 hours west of you - near Cleveland. I've been expecting the DocuSign email since the 17th when I received the "final stages of manufacturing and will be ready for delivery soon" email. Hope you enjoy it a bit more knowing the rest of us are just watching and waiting.

The Model S delivery saga continues...

After a week of multiple phone calls with an inside delivery specialist in CA and one random e-mail from a local DS, we just got a call from the sales rep that we reserved the car from at the Bellevue store and shortly after, the final mvpa from her. Apparently they are now enlisting help from the stores to get the paperwork done.

So we are signed and wire will go out in the morning. Here's hoping for speedy delivery.

P9455, VIN 2684

Wait - what?? Ok, I understand Tesla prioritizing CA cars first, but what is going on with their sequencing?? How in the world did they end up skipping ahead to your car? I'm in the same location as you, Bellevue WA, P6300, Dec 15-31 "delivery" but still no VIN. "CA first" ain't it.

Don't get me wrong - all good for you, it's Tesla I'm looking at here. I'm getting serious pissed off at them.

Is it perf vs non-perf? (I'm perf)
Is it grey wheels vs. silver? (I'm silver)
Is it financing vs. personal payment? (I'm part both)

Wow, there are some seriously high reservation numbers getting deliveries now! I don't want to stir the pot the on the whole issue of batching and sequencing that Tesla is doing but I was just curious WHAT IS THE HIGHEST RES NUMBER TO HAVE TAKEN DELIVERY SO FAR?

I'm #7734 and I assumed I wouldn't get my car until April but perhaps there is a chance it will actually be the "Feb/Mar" timeline Tesla told me on the phone. I'm getting a 60 KWH with air suspension and nothing unusual that would likely cause a delay (other than battery size).

Heh, just for your res. #. Seriously, almost 1400 higher than mine! I'm jealous, but congrats to you and I hope it arrives swiftly.

I'm curious, when you got the "want your car in December," how long before you clicked? I think there were hours or maybe (?) as much as a day between when the e-mail hit my inbox (not when I saw it, hence part of the delay) and when I clicked Yes (also had to talk to my other half). I'm starting to wonder how much that set me back. ;-)

Uhhh.. that's the even more obnoxious part, we didn't finalize our order until Dec 3rd, and never got the 'do you want the car this year' e-mail. I was completely expecting a Vin over 3000. We did complete any requested information within a couple hours of getting it. I can only guess we fell into somebody else's spot.

It does seem we have the dubious honor of having the biggest delta between our P# and Vin.

i'm sure that will change when i take delivery first weekend in January (latest estimate). ;-)

My guess is that 'delivery' means on the truck headed to your house; so I'd plan on one additional week. This is based on the fact that my DS keeps telling me that my car will definitely be delivered this month but is not off the assembly line yet. I live in Charlotte NC and doubt that FedEx has a box big enough to overnight that thing. :)

For what it's worth, we're 85kw, non-performance, Brown, Tan, Pano, Tech, Air Suspension, Obeche Gloss, 19", no financing, no trade

I don't claim any special insight, but I gotta think that they are pumping out the cars that are easiest to deliver before the end of the quarter. Local and west coast is easier than east coast. No trade is easier than dealing with a trade in. No financing is less challenging than making a bank part of the mix.

I'm pretty sure that my S will come in the next couple of days. P1312 / VIN2530. No financing. No trade in. No hassles.

I'm no trade in, no financing (at least with them). It's loaded minus paint armor. I said yes... and yet no VIN even though folks with higher Ps are getting VINs. I am in Atlanta, mind you, but so are several other folks now sitting with VINs and awaiting delivery.

I'll admit to being annoyed, but really my major emotion right now is curiosity: how exactly is all of this batching being done? I'm having a hard time seeing a pattern.

Looks like more Atlanta folks are getting VINs today (but so far not me, woe am I). Chatting with Andy at Tesla, he is skeptical about 2012 for me and his best explanation for why I haven't gotten a VIN is just that they can't get to everyone they gave the option for 2012 delivery.

I'm in a similar situation, but with some added salt on the wound:
  • My specialist has struggled to answer any of my questions throughout the process, from local tags/inspection, to local setup of service center, to timing, to other details
  • I convinced my brother to purchase car about 2 months after I did, over a year ago - about 1000 reservations after me
  • Convinced him to upgrade to the 85kw battery for better range and air suspension for ride
  • Live about 10-15 miles from him on the east coast
  • Have the exact same configuration as he does, with the exception of color / interior
  • I made every selection in the process, final agreement, decision on Dec delivery, etc before him
  • He was told his car is in the final stages and should be delivered before the end of the year
  • I am being told my date is pushed into January sometime, with 0 specifics.

The only difference I can think of is I may have selected trade-in and he did not, but that cannot possibly be a hold up issue as they have outsourced that to CarSense.

I am not sure if Tesla has a customer service / communication problem, logistics problem or something else, but I am very unhappy. Should we be concerned about the future state?

It's known that some cars don't pass quality control and are held back for reworking or in the worst case scrapped and a different car is started. I'd suggest that the later you get your car, the fewer problems you are likely to have.

I think the problem that Tesla has in communicating this kind of news is:

1. There isn't a good communications channel between the factory floor and the DS.

2. If told that their car is going back for major reworking, a lot of folks would say, "No, I want a good car".

Someone on the Atlanta Tesla Facebook page announced that he got his VIN today (via email). He definitely didn't have it over the weekend as he was talking about waiting for it then. Tesla is definitely back today; I talked to my DES.
