Final update! Took delivery a few hours ago. Weird stuff with financing and expiration dates, but got through that pretty quickly. Ended up with the black 20” plaid instead of the 22” midnight plaid. Looks good. SO is driving it home in the rain now.

When I saw the hold, I called Tesla. I was told they were doing this to figure who actually plans on getting the car. Apparently for the Xes they get a lot of deposits that are later forfeited: “We have to assign VINs as many of seven times before someone takes the vehicle.”.

Me, too, but it’s a six seater. I don’t remember when I ordered it. Actually, the same thing happened when I ordered my Plaid S: indeterminate date, suddenly it moved multiple months away, two days later I suddenly had a date range, and then shortly after a VIN. Or something like that.

I ordered the day of the announcement for the plaid (well it was plaid+ then) S and I got mine long after many folks who ordered >6 months after I did. A combination of living far from California and carbon fiber meant a long wait. Actually, my S sat in Cali and later Birmingham for weeks...

You’re describing my experience. 2012 P85 delivered to my house because there was no other way at the time in Georgia. Amazing. Then a P90D. Now a Plaid. I will say this: 2021.5 is beyond next level. 1970s special effects to 2021 special effects.

The carbon fiber T on the front of a black car does look great. In my case, getting that to work in the back was going to be too much trouble, so I punted.

I had my T in the front replaced with a carbon fiber one. I had the T & PLAID on the back painted gloss black (contrasts the now satin panels). They look tight, as the Pitch Guy would say. I could have had PLAID removed—they offered—but, that’s what it is and I’m not a fan of debadging. I do...
