North Hollywood Service Center opening in former Kmart space

Just passed by today and the barbed wire fence is still up but they have some Tesla banners up on the front. This is a massive space so it might be a while before it opens. Not too long ago they were using this as a storage space of either new or used vehicles. The whole lot was filled with Teslas.

A Los Angeles retail site is being eyed for a future Tesla showroom in another sign of demand for the electric car maker as it expands nationwide.

The Austin, Texas-based company wants to build a showroom, service center and vehicle spray booth at 13005 W. Sherman Way in the San Fernando Valley at a former Kmart property, according to city of Los Angeles records. The 10-acre property features roughly 117,000 square feet of retail space.

The deal comes as Tesla plans to open a showroom in a roughly 118,000-square-foot movie theater in L.A.'s Chatsworth neighborhoodand a showroom in another theater in Anaheim. Tesla also has started construction on a fast-charging station and drive-in theater in Hollywood.

Tesla is moving into the Sherman Way site after the property was sold in April to Orange County developer Greenlaw Partners for roughly $43 million.
