Hi, I'm SabrToothSqrl... I own a 5 year old Tesla. It's 0-60 performance keeps me up at night.
I feel like less of a man sometimes. Not usually, but sometimes.
I'd like to take it out on my back tires, but sadly... I own a slow Tesla.

brb, going to look for the meaning of life again.

2013 S85 owner here... I'd totally join your group.... We can pass tissues around and cry about our slow 5 second cars (4.9 seconds actually - 2014 Tesla Model S 85 kWh 0-60 MPH Testing)


How can we even stand the sight of our cars anymore.... We should probably set them ablaze!

Sometimes, it just tears me up inside. The pain. The guilt. If only my electric space car was imperceptibly slightly quicker to 60, then I'd have no problems at all. I'd run faster, jump higher, and I'd have gotten that job. No, it's not the 0-60 that's a problem. It's DEPRECIATION. That's a problem... that needs a support group! Ohh you paid $104 for that car... here... it's worth $35k today. Have fun

Voltage is the problem, mainly. 75's have 15% less voltage, and thus lower voltages at high currents.

There's probably some wiggle room for improvement, but admittedly, it's not going to be worth it.

I was talking with a friend the other day that is anxiously waiting for his Model 3 configuration invititation and he made a comment that his Model 3 will be much faster than my 18 month old Model S (0-60 mph). He also said that I own the slowest Tesla of any model manufactured during the past two years. I thought that he was wrong but I it seems that he might be right. I own a 2016 mid-year refreshed Model S75 RWD. I believe the 0-60 mph time is around 5.6 seconds. My understanding is that Model 3’s are about a full second faster to 60 mph. Model X and S dual motor vehicles can be “uncorked” to shave around a second off the 0-60 time putting them in the mid 4 second range. RWD Model S and X vehicles manufactured a little later than mine also can be “uncorked” to also put them in the 4 second range. Do I have my facts right and is my 18 month old Model S slower than all recently made Tesla vehicles including the lower priced Model 3?

Remind your friend that there are numerous cheaper faster cars. He can lose to a souped up $3000 93 civic.

Also remind him that you don't want a 93 civic, or the cheapest, smallest car tesla offers, and you're happy with your model S

I love my 2016 RWD S75, and I don't think I'm missing out anything compared to the other Tesla owners. My car is fast enough, and I enjoy every second with it. If Tesla can offer uncorking, I'll probably do it, but if not, I'm not holding any grudge. L-O-V-E I-T!

Great posts. I enjoyed reading all of them. But if I am interpreting the post by Krash correctly, my car should get to 60 mph in 4.75 seconds? I see that in the table Krash posted for 2016 MS with the old drive unit. I never clocked my car to 60 but that time is better than I thought.

I believe the original 40 and 60 battery vehicles might be slower.

You can feel better knowing that you are still faster than 95% of other vehicles on the road.

I use the one foot rollout to normalize the start times. You can see how the car is already moving at time zero, but otherwise yes. If you do a 0-60 timed run in iOS powertools or Android Dashboard you can see exactly.

Almost all Tesla models do better than their published times. Even the P100D was coaxed to be 2.28s while it lists at 2.4s.

I'm excited to lay down some runs with my summer tires in my uncorked 75D. I know @Krash has tons of data on that but I just want to get some good runs in.

Things to feel good about

• Slower acceleration in your S75 should result in your tires lasting longer.
• Less likely to get ticketed by the police in a slower car
• At least you don’t have a Model S 40 which had 0-60 performance of 6.5 sec, or the pre-refresh 60 with 0-60 of 5.9

• You are packing a bigger frunk

Probably not if like me, I have the same era 2016 RWD 70 with refreshed nose and have the smaller standard frunk.

I never feel like I’m driving a slow car, but made the mistake of driving a P100D briefly and yup, that extra few seconds makes all the difference, almost scary. I rarely accelerate hard and have sympathy for my tyres, so in reality for 99.5% of my driving I appreciate the quieter ride.

@Krash thanks. I understand the amperage difference (to squeeze in more depth for the 100D I presume), but what about back EMF? Wouldn’t you want that in all batteries? How is that solved in pack?

I was talking with a friend the other day that is anxiously waiting for his Model 3 configuration invititation and he made a comment that his Model 3 will be much faster than my 18 month old Model S (0-60 mph). He also said that I own the slowest Tesla of any model manufactured during the past two years. I thought that he was wrong but I it seems that he might be right. I own a 2016 mid-year refreshed Model S75 RWD. I believe the 0-60 mph time is around 5.6 seconds. My understanding is that Model 3’s are about a full second faster to 60 mph. Model X and S dual motor vehicles can be “uncorked” to shave around a second off the 0-60 time putting them in the mid 4 second range. RWD Model S and X vehicles manufactured a little later than mine also can be “uncorked” to also put them in the 4 second range. Do I have my facts right and is my 18 month old Model S slower than all recently made Tesla vehicles including the lower priced Model 3?
