I have been using top detectors ever since the original Escort came out. The best detector right now, by far, is the Uniden R3, yes Uniden, they are a large corp that is now very serious about top model detectors. You can do the research on the radar forums, it is real digital and is incredible. I have no connection to this company.
It is substantially better than any detector out there and the company is very pro consumer.

It looks like he has a newer model S with the newer windshield. I believe the newer windshield doesn't have the metallic coating so the radar detector would work fine. It's the older windshields with AP1 that are coated.
