Well that was lame..maybe the Nevada cameraman figured the important part was over once the Governor stopped talking! Amazing how many people still don't know who Elon Musk is.
Ahh well hope they will archive the video somewhere so I can watch it later.

It would be cool if they designed and built their own battery powered locomotive to get the batteries from Nevada to Fremont. Gotta go up a couple thousand feet with weight to clear the pass and then a whole lot of regen on the downslope into the delta and then Bay area. Unload all the weight and practically skip over the Sierras on the way back. Rinse, repeat.

@Cattledog

The IR drop along the power cable between the locomotive and each freight car's power connection would be very high without high voltage conversion enroute. However, each freight car could be self-propelled. 4 locomotives at 4600 HP each can pull roughly 30 or so loaded ordinary freight cars over the Sierras, so moving the motors to the cars would need only a few hundred HP each, spread over electric motors on 4 axles (order of magnitude estimate). The tractive effort (and regen action) in each car could be controlled by a small locomotive at the head end by radio to control car-to-car slack action.

Of course, these batteries would be technically in "used" condition upon arrival. Intriguing concept.

Just listened to Elon say they are going to be giving tours because you are going to want to see it.

Who's ready for gigafactory tour!?! hahaha. Factory tour? Check. Up next - Giga!
