"Dear OA:

My policy is to insist that the vehicle be as specifed in the paperwork sent to me in advance.

This vehicle had significantly above normal mileage as well as someone took my vehicle out for either a test drive or a joy ride and drew an incredible about of power from the battery pack in a single event.

These two events cause me significant concern. First, I charge $100 per mile to use my vehicle. Tesla decided unilaterally, after I put down my deposit, to use my vehicle for its purposes. Tesla does not have this right under the Reservation agreement. Thus, demand is made for the payment of $100 for each mile over 50 which is the specified inventory vehicle limit. Any salesperson or corporate employee could easily have discovered this vehicle was under reservation. Demand is made herewith for payment of $3,700.00.

Second, the overuse of the battery, at 900kwh, is a significant abuse of the vehicle. Once again, this occurred after I placed my deposit. The only reasonable accommodation is the provision of a two year extended warranty at Tesla cost. Demand is made for that accommodation as well.

Sincerely, , , "

I'd write that letter in a heartbeat. And I'd accept the warranty extension and the first two annual services gratis. . . . if you don't ask you don't get.

with someone averaging 900kWh at one point somehow
If you leave the car on, with lets say a door open, and the AC/heat running, once you drive out it would appear as if you had 900wh/mi usage. When in fact that car was stationary.

Try it out. Get into the car, record your last wh/mi, then sit in the car with the AC on for 30 minutes, and then drive out. For the next few miles, it would appear as if your wh/mi usage is sky high, even if you're coasting at 35mph.

I would assume this is what happened.

If you’re going to make demands, make sure your units are correct. I suspect @nigelsilva is looking at 900 Wh/mi on the consumption meter and not 900 kWh of total energy consumed on a vehicle with fewer than 100 miles on the odometer. 900 kWh would be enough energy to propel the vehicle over 2,400 miles. As Max* said, there are plenty of reasonable explanations for an average consumption of 900 Wh/mi, including climate control use while the vehicle is stationary, such as while being prepped for delivery.

its not my car - and I'm providing a format letter - I'm not representing people.

Some people need some help here -

I don't really care what the issue is - they don't have the ability to use your car for any purpose once its reserved and the reservation money s accepted.

You don't have proof that they used the car for any nefarious purpose.

They could have noticed something off in the inspection and needed to drive it around adding to the +37 miles.
They could have left the AC/heat on while detailing the car, 900 wh/mi.

I think it's too early to draft up demand letter, when we don't even have the full story.

*Look around* Crap, I'm on TMC, nevermind. Get the pitchforks

I understand that it's not your car, but you continued the same unit error that the OP started. I felt it was worth mentioning in case he actually sends such a letter to Tesla.

I'm not being nefarious - I can only provide commentary on the facts I'm given. If the facts are wrong then the letter is wrong. Its how things work. . . . right? :D

It is here! Arrived this evening at the house after, well, something like 10 days of day by day delays. Car is sublime. Tesla did work hard after I got a little 'direct' on when the car needed to be delivered.

Excited!

I would assume this is what happened.

Apparently they had wiped the car after receiving it back from loan (see below) and the drive up the road from the SC to the Store (about 800 feet up an incline) had accounted for the high usage.

Yes I originally made a typo in my haste to post the message.. oops! I understand it is meant to say Wh/mi my apologies. Thank you for clearing that up!

UPDATE on the situation: Okay I got a call from my delivery specialist today, and found out the the car was loaned out the night I ordered it (before I paid for it at least..). This did not line up with the fact that I was told the car was in transit from the factory on the day I ordered it, destined to become a test drive car, but hadn't arrived yet. Obviously, this wasn't the case. Overall, I wouldn't be very concerned if the car was in perfect condition, but with the passenger mirror squeaking, and the driver mirror failing to open completely (without help) I'm more than a little bit pissed off.

Overall I still love the car, and I'm happy with the purchase and friendly staff, I just wish there was better communication between employees and throughout the ordering system. Next time perhaps purchasing directly from the factory is the way to go.

This was cost to my exact situation as well. Friendly and helpful staff throughout, but the poor communication between the DS and SC reps seemed to be the real issue.

it seems like my rep only communicates when she has something to communicate. sadly, that didn't seem to be very often. but being in sales i understand that, and when you're busy it's tough to get back to every inquiry with typically only an empty answer. i'm not saying that it's good, or right, or anything, just that I understand it.
