Based on the timing, I think it is often because the mods are sleeping, or eating breakfast, or working at a real job, or a myriad of other things. You seriously think we wait around to delete an article at the best possible time? At most, once we (at least this is how I do it) realize that a discussion has devolved, we might backtrack to where we believe it started, and then delete from there, but at most a few pages of posts. We are just volunteers doing the best we can, and I assure you we try our best to be fair and balanced.
