Cup holder cinchers

I heard/day a bunch of complaints about the cinchers being too tight and exploding coffee cups
Someone was trying to put a cheap coffee cup in mine ( I use a ceramic German made cup) and they couldn't get it safely into the hole without not being able to remove it

Yup. The "pinchers" are great for plastic bottles and cups and cans, but they can do quite a number on the cheap styrofoam road-coffee cups.

That said, I do prefer the cinchers and have found better fit from my armrest cupholders than the CCI's (where vessels smaller than McDonald's extra-large cups don't fare all that well).

I modified mine with a lighted cupholder that has cinchers.

Mine has the cinchers and I put a cheap take-out coffee cup in it daily. They work great except that when my coffee gets about half done, it makes a creaking/squeaking sound that was driving me nuts (thought it was something in the pano roof) until I realized what it was!

And why would you assume that the CCI would include the cinchers?

They don't. That's why I modified my CCI. Sorry if my post wasn't clear. Now that I re-read it, it doesn't seem clear just what the heck I was referring to...

I suspect a lot of the reasons these changes are made are to reduce NVH complaints. With no engine noise to cover squeaks and rattles.

the removal of the cinchers was done because people complained about them busting through their cheap styrofoam cups and drinks spilling out of the hole. But now the problem is you have the other half of people complaining about their cups flying and spilling when slamming on their brakes. the correct solution would have been to make the cinchers removable, but unfortunately there was no Genius at Tesla that day.

Thank you yobigd. I've been thinking the same thing as I read these complaints.

I am the random thread resurrection specialist. . .

My car has the cinchers and I found that they are scratching my stainless steel coffee mug. Has anyone else experienced this, and, even better, found a solution? All I can think of is to wrap my mug in a cloth, or, god forbid, just be OK with a scratched coffee mug.

Mine doesn't have them either. The loaners all had them which is why I knew Tesla had removed it. My metal Contigo rattles around and I'm always sticking a napkin in first to act as a cushion on the sides. This along with no lighted vanity mirrors, door pockets, rear cup holders,(the list goes on and on) is why nobody can take Tesla seriously as a luxury brand.
