I like it! I like the 21' rims Tesla offers, but there too expensive and not practical (for me anyway). I don't like the smaller rims either, so I was happy to see this post! Can you post a zoomed out picture so we can see how it impacts the entire look of the entire car?

Good find!

Thanks. This weekend has been crazy, and I have not been able to get the famiy's resident photographer (my daughter) on the job. I will post better pictures when I have them, but here are a few more I took with the crummy camera on my Galaxy Nexus.

I was told they hadn't decided what they were going to do with winter wheels. My parents were charged the $100 ranger fee for them to drop off the winter wheel cell and link the TPMS. Maybe they'll revisit this and make it policy that it is included.

Wow, that is really nice looking! Thank you for posting these!

What i think is that Tesla just badgebranding original Lorinser RS8 wheels... http://www.wheelcompany.nl/webshop/lorinser-velgen/rs8/
I really like the chrome-looking wheels.

None of Lorinser wheels in your post have the correct bolt pattern and thus will not fit the Model S. So I doubt Tesla is "rebranding" wheels that don't fit the car, unless they are having them specially made with a different bolt pattern.

Those look nice, but are different where the spokes meet the hub, and the angle of the spokes, it seems.

Many of us have spent countless hours searching for 19" turbine wheels that will fit the Model S. These are the only ones found. If they aren't a clone of the stock 21" wheels I guess we'll have to settle for that imperfection.

Totally understood Artsci...and I don't mind the deviations from the 21" clone. I just interpreted FVO's original comment to mean that he had found the original source of the Tesla stock wheels, and they were the Lorinser RS8, which is definitely not the case. So far the Wolfrace Lugano's that you found and the Rial Lugano's both look very nice, and are excellent options. I will probably wait a few months to see if Tesla announces an OEM 19" turbine before I order one of the other options, and use my stock 19"s for winter wheels.

Have you ordered the Wolfrace Luganos for yourself?

Thanks Jake. No, I haven't ordered them yet. As Tesla has told me delivery will occur in Feb or March, I'm anticipating early April. By then I can drive on the 21' wheels until cold weather arrives in the fall. So I'll probably order the Lugano's in the late summer of 2013.

I want to order them and have them ready on delivery perhaps and have them installed at the delivery center in Miami I wonder if it would be possible have them delivered to the service center and have them install them when the car arrives? Then they could keep the stock rims cause I really won't need them

I don't believe that Tesla will buy back the 19" stock wheels, but I'll bet you could find a number of owners that want to purchase them them for winter tires.

Let us know if you are able to have Tesla install your aftermarket wheels before or after you take possession (and also if you are able to have them delivered to the Tesla delivery center). I'm also planning on changing out the stock 19's at the time of delivery, so I'm curious. Thanks, xhawk101!

I understand it is possible to have done at service center. Need confirmation

My experience was that I was able to ship aftermarket wheels to the service center, and have them mount tires and install TPMS. I cannot say for sure that this is corporate policy, or whether the service center was just being accommodating. I can tell you for sure that they will not deliver your car with anything but OEM equipment. You will have to take delivery with Tesla wheels, then have the aftermarket wheels put on. Since I have had a few inquiries about my experience getting aftermarket wheels put on, I thought I would lay out the details for everyone.

Wheels
Tunershop.com sells the Rial Lugano wheels. The representative, Alexander Moll, was very responsive answering my questions, although he is much easier to contact by email than phone ([email protected]). You want to order 8.5x19 5x120ET32. Following is a link to the website page where you can order the wheels:
http://www.tunershop.com/Wheels/19_inches/RIAL_Lugano_x100_107x_p235966.html
I had the wheels shipped directly to my local Tesla Service Center. Shipping is free anywhere within the U.S. (the wheels get shipped directly from Germany).
Total cost including shipping was $1,388 for the wheels.

Tires
I opted to have TM mount the Pirelli Sottozero Serie II tires that they put on the OEM 19” wheels. The total cost for the tires and installation of the TPMS was $1,459.
Tunershop offered to mount 245/45 R19 Hankook W310 winter tires on the wheels. If you order the tire/wheel package, the total cost shipped from Tunershop would be $2,670. In other words, when you figure in the cost of TPMS, the price of the wheel/tire combo is a wash as between Tesla and Tunershop, and you can pick whichever tires are preferable for you. If you can find a better deal on tires elsewhere, you could have them shipped to the service center as well.

TPMS
I am having trouble locating my receipt from the service center for installation of the TPMS, but my recollection is that the price was rather nominal (i.e. < $200). I should note that even if you get TP sensors somewhere else, Tesla still has to physically set the sensors so the car recognizes them. In other words, you have a trip to the service center or a ranger visit in your future even if you source the TPMS elsewhere.

As noted above, I want to stress that TM will not deliver your car with any non-manufacturer equipment installed. So although they got the tires/wheels all ready to go for me, I still had to take delivery with the 21” wheels and get the 19” wheels installed after the fact. There may also be some service center to service center variability. I am not sure that the extraordinary efforts the NY service center took to accommodate me reflect corporate policy.

Lug nuts
If you order wheels from Tunershop, you should specify in the notes that you need M14x1.5 lug nuts, otherwise they will ship the wheels with M12x1.5 lug nuts, which will not fit. Because of a timing issue, I ended up buying lug nuts from Summit Racing, Gorilla Small Diameter Lug Nuts 26144HT - SummitRacing.com, which were suggested by the parts advisor at Tesla. They are only $56.99 for a set, and they are locking nuts, which is a bonus.

Hope this is helpful. The wheel/tire combo has been working really well for me for the past 3 weeks.
