ID3 starting at 35,500 EUR, not 30k as promised?

Just found this, they haven't abandoned the 30k price point. Hell of a deal for a hatchback with similar specs as the M3 at 44k and MY at 60k. The ID.3 Pure for less than 30,000 Euro should “also be available for order in a few months”. ID.3 goes into open sales on July 20 - electrive.com

ID3 starting at 35,500 EUR, not 30k as promised?

I hope it's not true... the ID.3 is the most promising non-Tesla EV. Inside EVs reports that the "basic" version starts at 35,574 EUR in Germany. VW told the press in Sept '19 that the starting price would be "under 30k EUR". Inside EVs doesn't seem to have any idea what they're reporting...

ISO examples of real-life solar calculations

I'm about a year out from buying my first home, and I really want to know if solar will make sense, even at an initial stage. Can anyone share their own calculations for solar? I'm interested in details like cost of system, annual energy cost savings, electricity needs (are you also heating...

Tips for selling my Model S

Circumstances are changing and I no longer need a car for my commute to work. I love my Tesla but unfortunately I have to sell it. I thought I'd post to Ebay Motors and ev-cpo.com.. am I missing any? Any other general tips for a first time car owner / seller?

    Supercharger - Allentown, PA

I just drove NYC to Pittsburgh and used Chademo in Harrisburg. It charged at 1.7 miles per minute which is about 1/3 as fast as a supercharger. I don't own the adapter, I had to borrow it for just this one weekend. Pretty big pain in the ass to drive thru the PA deadzone. TSLA really needs...

Aftermarket autopilot for "classic" MS's, there might be hope.

This is gen 1 and very encouraging that we're at $10k today. Other competitors will emerge (i.e. MobileEye and partners) and prices will come down. 2-3 years from now I bet there's a fully autonomous aftermarket kit for less than $10k (which includes back and side cameras). $10k for a...

Any chance for upgrading hardware from "2014 Autopilot" to "2016 Autonomous ready"?

Came across this DIY install guide for front and back dashcams.. somewhat comparable to what might be required to upgrade MobileEye-powered cameras in the front and back. Side cameras maybe a little more tricky.. Tesla Model S BlackVue HD Dashcam Installation Guide - TESLARATI.com

Any chance for upgrading hardware from "2014 Autopilot" to "2016 Autonomous ready"?

I just looked up the numbers. They've shipped 89,925 MS units thru the end of Q3, of which 43,008 have AP if you assume AP starts at the beginning of Q4'14. The question is whether Tesla offering an 8-camera upgrade for current AP owners is going to matter for future sales. They're targeting...

Any chance for upgrading hardware from "2014 Autopilot" to "2016 Autonomous ready"?

MobileEye has multiple different development tracks with different OEMs, so they're referencing one of their other configurations (likely 3-camera front facing). Their cutting edge solution is 8 cameras which they think is Automous ready, so that's the finish line in terms of hardware. They...

Any chance for upgrading hardware from "2014 Autopilot" to "2016 Autonomous ready"?

The service center capacity point might be valid today, but likely going to change. EM on the last earnings call: Jon McNeill has joined as Head of Global Sales and Service. And Jon is the former CEO of Enservio. He's been named sort of Most Admired CEO in the small and midsize company...

Any chance for upgrading hardware from "2014 Autopilot" to "2016 Autonomous ready"?

Another user in this thread claimed to have gotten quotes for retrofitted power side mirrors and parking assist - two pretty serious changes.

Any chance for upgrading hardware from "2014 Autopilot" to "2016 Autonomous ready"?

Parking sensors require significant body work - addition of multiple sonar sensors and changes to the body (I.e. Circle cutouts for sonar). This is just tacking on 3 cameras to each front and back windshield and 2 on the sides - - - Updated - - - Another reason that I'm hopeful is that...

Any chance for upgrading hardware from "2014 Autopilot" to "2016 Autonomous ready"?

I listened to MobileEye's earnings call a few days ago, and the CEO is saying that their next system will have 8 cameras and that's all they think we'll need to become fully autonomous. It'll be enabled over time with software updates. Tesla is naturally first to market, and this new hardware...

    Autopilot 1.01 coming soon...

I got a kick out of this response @Sonikku_a: @elonmusk Have it check if the user is recording video for YouTube on cell phone and disable autopilot, because they are about to be stupid.

Autopilot 7.0: When to be most on your toes?

Good thread. Doesn't tesla already have all this data on how people typically drive? It has a fleet of 200k cars doing a few million miles / day. It doesn't seem like Tesla has factored in enough of this GPS-related date to AP, but seems like it should be. Can someone with more of a technical...

Future of autopilot on current gen hardware

Tesla is using the MobileEye hardware suite, MBZ is one of the few OEMs that is developing everything in house and not using MobileEye. So Tesla is really tied to MobileEye's development path which the company has laid all of this out. Their next gen system includes 6 sensors (3 front, 2 sides...

Future of autopilot on current gen hardware

EM was asked what current gen hardware was capable of, he said imagine what an expert driver could do with current sensor suite using a remote control. He also thinks that full autonomy will be here in 3 years. This is pretty exciting when speculating about the roadmap for future software...

Very big problem with Autopilot so far

Once Tesla observes 50 cars drive down a certain stretch of road, that should be good enough. For observations 51-500, how much smarter is the system? My guess is not very, and if that's the case, improvements will come very slowly. I would love to be wrong on this...

Autopilot in New York City area

New York presents some unique challenges for Autopilot, and I'm interested to hear where others have found it to work well and where it doesn't I found it to be pretty dangerous on the Merritt Parkway north of the city since traffic moves at 70-80mph around hairpin turns. Hopefully Tesla will...

    Firmware 7.0

I just did my 42 mile commute through NYC rush hour traffic. Overall I was impressed, but a few trouble spots: It can be very dangerous at high speeds around sharp bends! I ran into problems on the Merritt Parkway north of NYC where traffic goes 70-80 despite posted speed limits of 50 even...

    Firmware 7.0 Beta Discussion

Apple has clearly shown that its a winning strategy to give the consumer fewer choices and less functionality, in favor of ease of use. Same thing is going on here with the speed dial. I'm a fan of this going away. Why do I need to know exactly how much energy my car is using at all times...

What does the battery degradation curve look like?

This might be a noob question, but is the battery degradation issue must be why the battery swap wasn't practical, right?

    Firmware 7.0 Beta Discussion

The most important reason they have the toy car is to get the driver comfortable with driver assistance functionality. The driver needs to know what the car knows, particularly important to gauge when the car might not have enough information Requiring the driver to take back control.

    What's your 90%?

I havent read thru this whole thread, but wondering what the conclusion is putting all these data points together. What's the base case assumption for decay of battery over time? I.e., can we say with any certainty that Tesla batteries will likely decay 10% over 100k miles?

Autopilot lane keeping still not available over 6 months after delivery

MobileEye is the company to beat in autonomous driving. They license their tech to automakers representing 60% of industry units. Toyota is the notable holdout. Mercedes is one of the only automakers working on their own solution from the ground up. Google is taking a completely different...

Aftermarket lift gate stop for low clearance?

I didn't go with the power lift gate option, but realized after delivery that my garage in Manhattan has another car parked above it limiting the gate's ability to open all the way. Makes it very challenging to get into and not scratch the spoiler area. Does anyone know of an aftermarket...

Autopilot lane keeping still not available over 6 months after delivery

that UI seems more responsive than the Model S.. Hopefully that's more a function of better code base underlying V7.0, and not a faster chip in the Model X. Big difference in the maps app, on screen for a few seconds at the end

    Driver engagement while in Autopilot?

It should always be a judgement call. Like prob not a good idea to take eyes off the road while in heavy traffic around major cities.. But what about highways in middle of America where each exit is 20 miles apart?

    Driver engagement while in Autopilot?

What will be the acceptable level of driver engagement while in Autopilot? I figure these are the scenarios to consider: Best case - Not necessary to have eyes on the road, only in ideal circumstances (I.e. no traffic on highway, no merging to worry about). So would be free to read a book, etc...

Autopilot lane keeping still not available over 6 months after delivery

I was just thinking.. What if worst case scenario plays out and they're actually not going to release AP for legal reasons..
