I'm not sure they would have paid him for that. They may have just asked him to do this series. It's certainly not like he is shilling for Cadillac and when he describes Apple as the upstart of an established industry and the future of the automobile, my mind goes to Tesla. Not Cadillac.

Tesla is carving out their own niche by building luxury/performance EV's. So they shouldn't be chasing Toyota-like volume. Don't get me wrong they need to increase sales but lets be realistic.

Prius owners want an appliance and the Prius looks like one. Its boring for both an EV and ICE car. I'm not slamming anything else about the Prius other than its styling and driving dynamics. Its a fuel efficient, reliable appliance which is why people buy it.

I forgot to add that Tesla needs to have a performance focus as well. Neither GM nor the Japanese will produce a performance oriented EV. The Model S is fast, sexy and cool. As I want a Model 3 as my next car I hope its the same.

Its not a nice as the quilted interiors of the S8 but I like it and its certainly a long way from ugly.

Not to mention Audi has been making interiors a lot longer than Tesla. They'll close the gap even more in the future.

Those buyers wouldn't buy something like a BMW 6-series Gran Coupe, Audi A7 or Mercedes CLS either. Cars which stand out just like the Model S does. Instead they'll buy a boring grey SUV to blend in with.

If price were equal (or wasn't a factor) I'd take the Model S with less range. I don't want to drive a penalty box.

Design is very important to me. I'd take a Model S over something uglier but double the range. I'd say that the reason the Model S is so desired has a lot to do with its design. Its a beautiful car that holds its own with any of the German marques costing similar money.

I said comparable. Car&Driver did an article a few years back that showed an E-Class wagon had more room than an ML. Actually IIRC they found that the E-Class wagon had more cargo space than most of the CUV's and SUV's on the market at the time.

Exactly what stopcrazypp said. Height is the main difference. The lower centre of gravity ensures better handling.

The wagon is the variant I lust after since I hate CUV/SUV's. In a wagon you get the great handling/looks of a car with more cargo space than a comparable CUV/SUV.

This is great news! I also like that you can get a personalized plate on a Tesla. I don't care for the green plates and also have an aversion to the 7 letter plates. lol.
